Material becomes hollow when Sectioned
-
Hello. Didn't know which forum to put this question in, but here goes.
When I draw an object made from materials such as wood, and then Section it, the materials are shown as hollow. Is there some kind of command or Rubyscript or plugin that will automatically fill these voids with a face. Complex assemblies become confusing when the sheetgoods look the same as the real hollow voids. Here is a section to illustrate my point. This is a section through a recording studio soffet and monitor.
Thanks,

Hello Bob and thanks a million. I took a look and it looks like thats exactly what was hoping for. I downloaded it, but now.. I don't know what to do with it.
I've never used Rubyscripts and don't know a thing about them. Is this just a plugin that I drop into the Sketchup Plugin directory? I read the whole thread, but apparently these people know what to do with it once they download it. I'm actually a novice compared to most people here. Thanks again

I just remembered one more question. I WAS going to post this thread in the 'Woodworking" forum, but when I clicked to enter the forum, I got a prompt that said...You are NOT allowed to read this forum"..
Can someone explain why? Thanks

You probably have to go to your User Control Panel (there's also a link in the top left corner of the page) and join the woodworking group. Then you should be allowed in.
And yes, with plugins just drop the file into your plugins folder. It should then be installed the next time you open Sketchup.

Hi FitZ, here is a "FAQ rely" on how (and where) to save plugins:
http://www.smustard.com/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=5&id=1&artlang=en
you don't have to do anything else than to save the plugin (ruby) file where it says...As for the Woodworking forum: Chris is correct, you need to sign up (although I have now added youso you don't need to do it any more).

Wow! You guys are too cool. Thank you so much. I think I found a new bbs home. I guess I'll have to start spending some time here. My "usual" hangouts are getting a bit weary now.
Btw, I have to say, I LOVE SKETCHUP! After using Autocad 2d for so many years, and numerous failed attempts at using it for 3d visulization, I'm absolutely thrilled with Sketchup. What an amazing tool..AND community...AND resourse..like the Warehouse. Fantastic. Can't wait to start rendering things. Anyway, thank you again SO MUCH you guys. Hope I can contribute something here in the near future.

Now as you have the section cut face, note that it's a group of faces. You can edit this group like any other (say double click on it) and even paint the individual faces with the materials they are cutting to achieve an even more realistic look.

HEY Gaileus, thanks a mill. I just saw this by accident. For some reason I don't get emailed when someone responds to my posts or ones I am following.
