Screen goes blank when I select...

When I use the select tool, going from right to left, my screen goes totally blank.
I have to click and lose the selection before the screen reappears...
Is this a setting that has gotten installed unbeknown to me?
Is this a bug or....
I restarted SU, that did not work, I then quite SU and restarted the computer and it is still happening.
any ideas?

Sounds like a graphics problem, have you tried turning off hardware acceleration? (window->preferences->openGL.)
