When trying to select a face su7 wont pick on highest ones i.e. it will go and highlight ground level for instance, i guess i must have an incorrect setting but cannot find one ,?

Go to "Window>Preferences>OpenGL>Correct reversed picking driver bug" and check that box. That should fix it.
