Model Animation
-
Hi, I made a model of a castle for google earth which works fine. Now i'de like to add an animated flag. I have made all the different states of the flag and put them in different layers and organised the scenes so the anim plays fine in Sketchup. When I try to place it in Google Earth however it only shows the first frame and I cant see the play timeline control. I looked at the .kml file, it does not seem to include any info about scene animation.
How do I include the scene anim info on export from Sketchup?
Is it indeed at all possible to export animated models from 'free' sketchup to Google Earth? -
As far as i know google earth cant play animations from SU. I may be wrong though.

Hi Ambitron,
Though flythrough animations (i.e. camera locations) can be exported to GE (though you will need to tweak them later), animations this way (with scenes showing/hiding different states of parts of the model with say layers and such) cannot unfortunately. I have sent an official feature request for this already - although the original idea was different, the solution would be the same - let's see what they come up with.

This model seems to work http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=9592eef7a79d7e0b264666710f461641&prevstart=0
But I would like to know how? -
First of all, that kmz file is not a simple SU output (have you expanded the folders in GE?). Secondly; are the turbines supposed to rotate? Because they don't - on my machine...
-
I ntoo never got the turbines to rotate, they say you need to do something in settings...what settings? where?
-
Animation settings; top left of the GE screen. I set it to extreme but no avail.
Ambitron, can you share your skp file? I could give it a shot in GE.

To view the animation, click the clock button, so you can see the time slider, you can click the spanner button then set 'loop'.
Play the animation from the time slder, there is a play button there.
So.......How?
Yes I did expand the .kmz in GE but that did'nt answer my questions

If it's not a 'simple SU' then what is it?
How can I make one? -
Okay, I got it to rotate now. So what they did was to create 24 states (rotations) of the turbine and export them one by one (plus the base called "model"). Then the put the animation together in GE. OR animated it in another software that can also export to kmz (I don't know if Blender can export kmz but it can import it and also it can animate things unlike SU). This is also why you cannot even download the skp file, only the kmz/collada file.

Heres another file http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=3ed83dc94626fa146f030389c714c405&prevstart=0
You can open this file in SU6 and view the scenes, although cant play it's anim in GE?? -
Are you asking this or saying? (BTW there's no kmz download for this one so I can't tell how it would behave in GE but I doubt it would animate). You can do the animation in SU, can't you?
