Scene Arrangement

Confused on locating Scenes.
When your model is ready to have various Scenes created what approach should be taken? Create the Scenes scattered all around in the model or run the Scenes down one of the axes? Just thought there might be a "standard" practice.
I now just scatter them all over the place and get vertigo as they whorl / spin from one to another.......
Thanks
(Gaieus,,, if you are reading just wanted the say will miss your "mug shot" avatar, but the new one is OK.)

Depends on what you want to do with your scenes really.
If your looking to turn them in to an animation you'll want to think quite carefully about where you want the camera to go in your animation and then place scenes at key points.
If your creating scenes so you can export stills just put them wherever you need to and try and get used to the camera changes.
p.s. i preferred the old avatar as well gai.

Well, guys, that was taken during a serious beer party. As I haven't drunk anything else than rosehips tea in that regular pub where it was taken for more than a month now, I thought I'd change it (haven't found a better one yet).
As for scenes; it really depends what you want to do with them. A flythrough? Or just "working" scenes with different styles, render setings, shadows and hidden layers?

Remus, Gaieus,
All these questions I ask always seem to become clear after there asked and I read the responses, then I think about it for a while. Just wish I was as "up to speed" as some of the folks I read here. Their questions are stellar!
Anyway, my problem boiled down to not "un-checking" all the layers for "a scene" that don't pertain the "that" scene. That way when the view whorls around none of the "other scene stuff" is visible. Works neat!
And my scenes are primarily working scenes. I do my "humble" drawing for something I want to build and then arrange the "scenes" to assist in my construction flow...... The attachment is kinda what I do at this stage in my SU evolution..... (be kind or I'll put you on my list, heh, heh, and I don't have a SawStop)
Hey, Gaieus,,, what do you mean "a serious beer party"??? Around here anytime beer is abundant it's serious........ Proud of you man!
Thanks for the input,

I think your modelcontains too many, unnecessary instances of the same geometry (with the camera always traveling from one place to the other). You can always save the same viewport with the same geometry and only with certain things hidden, with certain styles etc, Just make sure you carefully select in the Scenes dialog what to update and what not when creating a scene. (In a "workflow kind of scene set", camera location is typically NOT something you may want to update unless you want to show standard views).
Have a look at the first quarter of this video (starring: Chris Fullmer) where he shres some secrets of how he is doing it.

As for the beer party, here are some shots.

Gaieus,
Chris Fullmer's tip is great. I think I get it now. I've got some work to do. Thanks for your advice also.
The "Beer Party" shots,,, well what can be said other than "THAT'S A BEER PARTY"! Hey, did I see several "shot" glasses?? Yes I think so,,, bad dog-boy, bad dog-boy. No wonder you've been drinking that wossie tea. The group looks like my kinda people....
Thanks for sharing and for the help.

Please keep asking questions if anything is unclear or doesn't work the way I said it should. Its amazing how clear I sounded in my head, but listening to my presentation since then I've thought that I could have done better - oh well! So if anything is confusing, just ask.
Chris

Chris,
I'm blown away at your response! I feel that I'm in the "pond-larva" stage in this evolutionary process with SU. I just hope that with the help from folks like you I'll be able to walk upright one of these days.
Yup,,, having done many, many presentations in my "Honda Engineer" life, trust in that I know the feeling you have. It always seem that way..... I watched your presentation several times and it's very good. Remember, only you know how much more you wanted or could have spewed forth... Us'ens in the audience don't know that and are very happy to hear what is said. Again it was very good for us in the "pond" and I've already played with what you said and it works.

Just wanted to follow-up and say that my scene question is answered. I now feel that, for my needs in SU, I am in good shape and have a sound method for "scene management".
Got to give big thanks to Chris Fullmer for the "tips" video he presented, it worked for me. If you have not watched it and have any issues with scenes take a look.
Now I am very sure that all my recent dizziness it was not my "cocktails" as my wife was suggesting, it was all that "fly-through transitioning" going on from scene to scene.......
So, guess I'd better have another.............

hheehhe, well I'm glad you got it to a point that you feel like its working good for you now. I'm glad the tips and tricks session video helped too! We all put a lot of time and planning into our presentations,
Chris
