How does one copy items from one template (file) to another within Sketchup? How can one keep several Sketchup templates (files) open at the same time to toggle between without having to save a closeout of one to go to another? Tx.

You can either use copy and paste (select the geometry you want to copy->ctrl+c->open the new file->ctrl+v) or you can import one model in to another (file->import.) Both these methods should do what you want.

As for having a few SU windows open at the same time, if you open SU from the file i.e. clicking on the .skp file you want to open, SU will always open it in a new instance of SU. If you do this a few times you will have a few SU windows open.
