Carrots - do they melt in your hands?
-
I ate carrots a lot when I was a kid, but I never remember my hands getting an orange stain on them.
I had a couple whole carrots today, and my hand and the paper towel both were orange when I was finished.
Does my memory serve me incorrectly, or, could there be dye in carrots today to make them look better?

Todd, it may be the variety of carrot you had, maybe as a kid you ate a different variety. Danvers Half Long and Royal Chantenay are very orange and tend to stain more than say Nantes which are brighter orange, sweeter but do not stain as much.

I'll have to pay attention to the tag @ the grocer's next time I go. Thanks guys.

It's a natural substance called carotene. If you binge on carrots they will turn your skin orange... in the eighties they tried using carotene in tanning pills and everyone turned orange.
Not great as a superhero either...

So, screw the carrots. Let's talk more about Dynamite Girl... I feel I'm getting hypnotized staring at her...

Remember... it's not the size of the carrot - it's what you do with it.

Ross, lay off those carrots

Funny, Todd, but now that you mention it: the carrots I used to peel for my mom did stain my fingers, but the ones I sometimes peel to eat raw now don't...weird. (Pete, I'm impressed by your carrot knowledge :`)
