Today The Big Picture features the flooding (42 photos) in Gaieus' corner of the world...its weird because I don't ever think of Europe as a place that would flood but its pretty serious there now 😲

The flooding's pretty horrible, I heard it killed at least 19 people in the south of France today...

Well, if you look at the map, you can see that there are all those rivers coming from all countries around, flow down into the Carpathian Basin and there is practically one (more exactly two) rivers going OUT.

With the extensive "forest industry" in the mountains, waters run down much faster than they used to. But until the 19th century, half of the big plain of us was under water at least temporarily every year. Then they started to build the dams (we have more than the Dutch!) which is also not too good because the rivers now run higher than the surroundings...

What is darker green here is the "natural" flood land:

The other day I was also out packing sand sacks to prevent flood in my own city and we do not even have a river here but simple mountain streams/creeks flooded the houses!
                  😲

                  Gai...

Some of the nasa "photos" look computer generated. It may just be the sparse landscape contrasting with the machinery....but some of them look fake IMO. I am probably wrong but there is a certain CGI feel.

The uncontacted tribe photos are amazing.

Apparently only women and children were visible at first and when the helicopter came back round all the men had war paint on and started attacking with spears and bows!all the women and children were ushered inside, i bet they were terrified!
