Sketchup animation and youtube
-
I wrote this in another place but I think it probably belongs here because it has to do with sketchup settings
Hello, I have made a sketchup animation and I have uploaded it on to youtube - you can see it at http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=TGvRuEXLJ_w. The only problem is the thing jumps as it moves between scenes. The youtube bar stops then jumps and doesn't follow the transition smoothly. i watched the original animation on itunes and there isn't any jumping, even quicktime handles it fine.
These are the settings I used that gave me trouble (from Mac):
Format: .MOV
frame rate: 12
ratio: 1280 X 562'expert settings'
compression type: MPEG-4 Video'Motion':
frames per second: 24
key frames every: 24 frames
compressor: medium -
I used Smoothstep Animation Plugin by Whaat for this animation

Im guessing the problem is that youtube is re compressing your video, perhaps try exporting it in the format youtube likes so that it doesnt downsize it.

YouTube (newest) recommended settings are:
* H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 format * 640x480 (SD) or 1280x720 (HD) for 4:3 & 16:9 aspect ratios. * Frame rate should be the same as original video * Sampling rate: 44.1KHz for MP3/AAC audio
In SketchUp set your resolution to whichever aspect ratio you want (see the attachment)
Remember to set the transition and delay time under Window > model info > animation
If you're having trouble with its export from youtube's site, try exporting it through iMovie.

Thanks Dan, many of us are suffering with the compression of YT and any kind of valuable info about how and what to set up in the video to minimize this is always welcome.
