[Request]: SunPositionGizmo.rb

Hi Rub'ers,
A thing that is bugging me for a long time: the 'North angle' tool (in 'Model Info'palet ) is not intuitive.
It would be better to have a line indicating the direction of the sun at the given time of day, and not just the North angle.I really would want a better way to set the sun direction much easier, and WITHOUT having to switch the 'shadows' on, because 1: it seriously slows down Sketchup to a degree Sketchup goes in a coma, and 2: The shadows most of the time do not work because of the shadow bug.
When using render software, trying to set the sun in a position you want is just a nightmare.
Many other modelers have a graphical gizmo that shows sun direction much better.
Would it be possible to have a Ruby for that? What do you think?

Hi Kwist,
Jim's Sun Tool Preview and/or Map Sun plugins could do something like that.

Thank you Gaieus, I'll check those out, especially the 'SunTool.rb'.
It would be cool to be able to place the sun where you want, despite of location.
Very handy for rendering. -
TBD also made some sun tools a while ago. I don't remember what they were called or precisely what they did, but I think 1 placed sun objects in the sky for where the sun was set, or maybe every hour during the specified day or something. They were quite handy I remember. But maybe Jims already does everything they did, I haven't seen his.

haha thats strange to see an opposite problem to mine, moving to 3d studio max, its annoying as hell that i cant easily get accurate sun possition to a sites geographical positioning. i used to work in an architecture firm and all the renders we were busy with the architects had a nack for spotting an incorrect sun angle (as they design the building keeping the sun in mind) so i quickly discarded the idea to place the sun wherever it looked best and rather worked the sun to look best for where it could only be, and really wish max could tell what the sun would do for where my building is during what time of day.

Check out new free SketchUp plugin that shows suns path, hour of day etc:
http://tx.technion.ac.il/~arrguedi/SunTools/dwnld_after_reg/STdwnld.htm
Works on SketchUp 7 and for SketchUp 6 (have to direct it to SketchUp 6/plugin in the INSTALL process - as instructed in SunTool Help file.)
