After seeing the augmented reality program in the ruby forums, I decided to go out and find a free one. I'm kind of an internet dumpster-diver if you will; I almost never actually buy any software. I get it all for free.

Anyways, here's a link to the site: http://www.hitl.washington.edu/artoolkit/documentation/userintro.htm

After a few minutes, I had already gotten it some examples up and running, but am yet to find a way to import sketchup files into it. So, I posted the link here, hoping someone (smarter than me) would download it, try it, and find out how.

Have you played with the plugin in the ruby forum? It also works quite well and is free for the demo version. I set it up at work today and showed everyone. They were quite amazed, though weren't quite sure what we would do with it.....maybe in time we'll figure out.

Unfortunately though, there does not seem to be a mac version of the plugin.

...And although this one is way harder to use I imagine, look at the possible result ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

...And Here's a use for it!

Now you could see how a room would ACTUALLY look with different furniture.
...After checking, I found out that this was made with ARive, an application made with ARtoolkit.

I just spent a few minutes looking into thi in more depth, and it's not really a useable program per se. Its a bunch of libraries to build into a program. So its not really useful for me. I have no programming abilities.

Maybe Todd, Rick, TBD, or someone else wants to develop a robust cross platform free version for SU ๐Ÿ˜„ That includes animation no doubt!

I know it's not a program, that's why I made sure not to include the word program in the title of the thread, but it DOES come with example applications that you can run. My first Idea was to replace the model used in an example with one of my own, exported as a .wrl file, and although I did that, I couldn't find where in any of the code it specified what model to use, and there were no tutorials to show how.
