Uploads to 3D Warehouse twice the size of original skp file?
-
I just uploaded a file to the 3D Warehouse for the first time and was surprised to see that the uploaded file is 646kb, but the skp file on my HD is just 396kb. I even copied and pasted the geometry into a fresh file as I thought there might be V-Ray or SketchyPhysics data associated with it, but it made no difference. Is this normal?

Shouldn't be. Did you also download it and checked the file size against the original?

That's the crazy thing, when I download it from 3D Warehouse and save it to my HD it shows as 646kb, but if I open that file without altering anything at all and save it, it reverts back to the original 395kb. I assume it has something to do with the new 3D View feature, like it's embedded in the skp file when you export it. If so, that's a pretty bad setup: adding to file size and download time for the downloader and concealing modellers' hard work at producing very low poly models.

Hm... You are right - downloaded, showed 600+ Kb,opened, saved, now shows 400 Kb.
Should I move this to the Bug reports? Also, you know where to make a "proper" bug report if you wish...

Will do.
Yep, you can move it to SCF bug reports if you like. As a 3DWH noobie I just thought it was something that everyone but me knew about.

Done...
There are always smaller diffe3rences between what the download link shows and the real file size but IMO a difference up to about 50 or even more percent should not count for "normal". And what if you are challenging the 10 Mb upload limit?
