For the Birds...
-
I recently bought some plans for an "Extreme Birdhouse" that I ended up building as a present for a family member. Of course, like a solid Sketch-a holic as soon as I got the plans I did a Sketchup model of the bird "condo". I thought I would share a couple of renders of the model. It is still a work in progress..I sent a few screen shots of the model to the guy who designed it and now he wants me to help him do over his plans replacing his basic AutoCAD drawings and pictures with my model.
This is a Podium render with shadows turned on...The rest No backdrop, shadows off.. trying to get a good look for the instructions..
I'm not happy with the roof..it's supposed to be standing seam metal roof painted hunter green. I want to physically model it rather than do an applied roofing texture. The interior dividers are plywood but I haven't found a real good plywood texture yet.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome...thanks for looking! -
Not long after I started doing woodwork sketchup models I found a collection of wood textures. They are much better than the default wood materials.
You can download them here.

Hi Hazza,
That's a good resource, thanks!
Would you mind sharing it in this topic as well so that I could include it into the first post (with the due credits)?
Certainly I could do it on my own now but it's always good for other people to know where the original info came from...

Thanks for the link hazza...can't have too many resources for textures! The Western Red Cedar texture on the majority of the house is from Form Fonts, but I think the Pine is a default texture.

thx 4 the link

thats a great list. my complaint with the materials list was the poor selection of wood species and your list fixes that. thanks.
should i extract them directly to the materials folder or is there a better way?

I'm so glad I could host a texture link discussion by posting some renders of a birdhouse I modeled.

So I posted a link to some good wood textures and then the thread turned into a discussion about that.

I thank you for the link..you can never have enough good quality textures.
My point was that not one person could have been bothered with making some sort of comment or criticism, either positive or negative..thats all. Isn't that what the gallery is for..I thought anyways....but I don't want to sound like a whiny kid, so ..whatever...it's all good!
