      Hello All,

      I started using SU with version 3.1 and have not been back on it for quite a few years. I am having trouble getting the crown on these cabinets to do the follow me thing. I think it is because I have made it a component.

      Thanks

        See enclosed, You had a few little probs in there. You can't extrude something along a path if the path is in a different group. I just drew a new path. Secondly not all your units were the same height, maybe this was intentional.

          Jon,

          OK, I did not know they were not the same heights?? errr.... Can you explain what you did to draw a new path? I tried to hold dowm control and select the edges of the cabinets on the face but it kept selecting the entire cabinet.

          Again, I am new at some of this.

          Thanks for the quick reply!

            Hi OB,

            What Jon means is that you have to select the path only so as to get the Follow me tool to work. As you yourself already noticed, you cannot select a path (a set of edges) when they are inside a group / component and you are outside its editing context; you keep selecting the group / component entity.

            This means that the path (to follow) and the face which follows need to be in the same context - either both inside the group or both outside.

            You can (since SU 6) very easily overcome the problem;

            1. edit the group/ component
            2. select the path and copy it (simple, "traditional" Ctrl+C)
            3. exit the group / component
            4. go to Edit (menu) > Paste in place.
              OR vice versa; copy the face into the group / component this way.

            Now as both are in the same context, you can perform the Follow me operation as you are used to.

            Gai...

              Sorry O.b., i was away from my pc. Thanks for explaining Gaieus. Also O.b. where you had placed the profile of the moulding made it trickier for you to extrude. I moved it right to the end of the required path, because when you use it will only go in one linear direction.
