Editing animation, what not to use
-
Hey everyone
Just thought I would throw this out there.
I've been trying to edit exported SU animations in Pinnacle studio 12.
After several failed attempts, and thinking I was doing something wrong. I discovered that Pinnacle doesnt recognize the exported file format (.avi1, I think). There are apparently two types of .avi and it only recognizes the other one. It's also a very unstable program, lots of freezes, crashes etc...
I also tried many different video converters out there but there always seemed to be loss of quality.
Long story short, I downloaded the trial version of a competitor (corel) and it all worked like magic.
I bought the program for just this purpose, and it's a $90 frisbee now.
Hope somebody finds this useful

For the record Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 works quite well too. I think it was $99. I typically export to .png's and use APE4.0 to compile them and add music and such, though. I can't attest to it's capacity w/ .avi's but the quality seems to be quite good so I'd be surprised if there were issues there.

I used Pinacle studio 9 for a while. That was a couple of Years back. I had no problem with
avi files but You are right it was a frustrating unstable program as You said lots of freezes, crashes and so on. Since then I used Pro show producer and recently Camtasia Studio.
I am happy with Camtasia for now but thanks for the tip anyway. -
I use Sony's Vegas Movie Studio, and have had no problems with the avi output from SU.

I too use Sony Vegas, a bit of a resourse hog but nevertheless a great app.

My favourite is Ulead Mediastudio.
It's the first software of this kind I've found quite intuitive and now I use it just as habit. It is not better or worse of many other programs.
I could make a long video (45 mintes) assembling a plethora of small clips (more than 50) with all kinds of transitions and post effects. The trial version is fully functional and expires after one month.
If you don't have particular needs, Ulead Videostudio is a cheaper solution: it comes boundled with many cheap hardware pieces. You may get it with a pci firewire card, or usb card found for less of $5,00 on some internet auction.
