3DVia Launches Shape2.0: Just a Google SketchUp Clone?
-
-
How is the poly support?
-
Which Render Engines does it support?
Any texturing tools additonal to what SU has?
Animation? -
i have tried it before when it was early beta, and honestly did no see a single thing that would make it better then sketchup at that point. Would be curious, what they did now
-
I believe the major advantage of Sketchup over the clone is SU being a 'platform' (3td party plugins, render engines,3D warehouse, etc...).
Via shape will never be able to catch up...at least not when they don't provide extra things SU hasn't got. -

3D warehouse
Hum hum You can reuse any model of 3D Warehouse
Just reload it in 3DVia in kmz or OBJ format by example so no problemo (you must have SU of course)
Limitation of Shape 2 is : don't works with SP1
Documentation
They don't say Push Pull but Push 'n Pull
Formats supported and recognized -
Format kmz from SU must be Google Earth 4 else default kmz yet works not!
here import Dryad, Moi, Wings3D, SU, TopmodThere is yet a section Google Sketchup
-
Does it run smoothly when having a lot of high poly components on screen?
-
I can't answer you because I can't run it (don't works without SP2)
But I have asked
A simple componant must have less than 2 megas in 3dxml format !
There is also a limit as you can't save something on your own hard disk!!!
Only on the external server 3DVIA!
On 3DVIA limit seems now 100 megas! -
OK I can answer you
For the example with some objects above that was fluid but more you add objects and material more that becomes slowdown
Shadows are possible but only projected on the ground not between objects or auto shadows!
That's real time
