Is there a way to make this thinner?
-
ive got the first ring, and now i need to create a second ring to attach to the speaker cabinet that will be smaller and thinner and will fit inside the first ring. i cant figure out a way to model the second smaller and thinner inner speaker ring. the problem im having is that i cant find a way to create an exact copy of the first ring but make it smaller and thinner. is there a way to do this? or do i need to do a new ring from scratch?

See if this is what you're getting at. It's not an exact fit but just a quicky. I selected the whole ring.
Copy (control + C)
Paste (control + V)
and scaled down the pasted ring
Scale (S)
80% (.8)
Then I just moved the send ring inside the first one.As I said the 80% didn't quite match up perfect but it's pretty close if this is what you're looking for.

thanx brodie i tried the scale too myself but it just made the ring smaller but didn't thin out the edges i think i spent 4 hours on this problem anyway, it was a matter of making a copy of the first ring, and then using inference to make a circle exactly the size of the next smaller ring. it was a really difficult problem because i could figure a way to create the bigger circle to measure the smaller one or something like that... anyway. solved

Messing around with the scale tool is just making it more difficult than it needs to be.
I'm assuming you made the first ring by using the follow me tool. All you need to do is draw two arch shapes instead of one.
I've included a step by step skp so you should be able to work it out easier. If you don't want the two rings to touch you just need to draw them so they aren't touching.
