Ike
-
We'll, I'm pretty much right in the path of Hurricane Ike. I spent this morning getting a few things ready. This evening will be spent removing any possible projectiles from the yard, like patio tables and BBQ grills.
Could get rough. I'll have the video camera ready.
The attached picture is a Google earth image of Ike's path through the southeast part of Katy. "SLHS" is Seven Lakes High School, about 4 miles from my house, and where my wife works. The picture is a couple years old, as where all that dirt shows is now new residential construction.

Todd, look at it this way, It's going to be a new experiance bieng blown by an Ike.
You going to get the blast and we are getting ready for the friggin tornado's that Ike's suppose to create, not to mention the heavy down pour.
Everything is bigger in Texas and that includes the weather. -
Be safe Todd.
When the Gustav and Hannah action was on, I checked youtube on new videos about every 5 hours.
those home made videos gave me a pretty good idea what kind of strength these hurricanes and tropical storms have.No such thing in Europe, but every time a hurricane passes in the States we have rain and wind in Europe some days later. Actually following US weather in this period of year gives a better Europe prediction than our own European Forecast news .
Now lets hope you won't be suffering any damage from Ike.
-
Fingers crossed, Todd, but really - don't forget to turn on that video recorder!

I was just about to start a thread as well. Im in houston its supposed to hit here too. Harris county by the way. I actually think this will be pretty cool. ive never been in a hurricane before
-
Power is starting to flicker out here in Katy, not because of high winds, but I think because of a faulty connection somewhere that the slightest breeze is aggravating. It's been nice all day. I did go ahead and board up the front door glass (leaded), as most of the stronger winds we'll get (60+) will be from the north, and the house faces north, as we'll be on the west side of the storm.
It's not supposed to get real dicey until early in the morning. By 10am, the worst should be (hopefully) over.

For those outside US, You can follow the Hurricane live on local TV:

I hope the hurricane goes gentle on you. Please keep us informed as best you can. We'll be thinking about you & yours.

im watchin the news and it might be a type 3 or 2 i hope it won't hit harris county as hard as galveston
-
The hurricane has been updated and will be moving slightly to the east of Dallas, so we will get the rain and an estimated 40m/p/h winds which is nothing special. Y'all down south are in for a rough time, keep safe and keep indoors.
-
south? like how much south? cuz im here in houston the winds are getting stronger and stronger

..... what's the latest news ...... Hello Todd .... are you
still in one piece?Mike

Hey Ray! Was it exciting or scary in Houston? Hope you, family & friends are fine!
From the TV reports sounds like power is out for millions.
-
Hope you all are all right

I believe both Todd and Ray are lights out, they said 4.5 million users are without power in the Houston area.
Some serious damage too, yikes the sea level rose 17ft and totally over ran the sea wall. The damage is being calculated in $ billions.
-
I hope everyone is ok too. Anxious to hear back from Todd and Ray when things settle down or they get power back or whatever they need.

I hope Todd and Ray are both ok. I have relatives about 30 miles north of downtown Houston and they phoned briefly yesterday to say they were ok, but the house was in a mess...holes in the roof, windows smashed. It doesn't look like many in the Houston area are going to escape unscathed.

Todd
I hope you and your family and friends are all fine. Best wishes and please give us the thumbs up sign when you are able to get back on line.

Lights out, flooded cars, and i heard downtown is a total mess. I think its about more than 4 feet of water. I went to pasadena and on my way there i saw this big giant hole on this big building. it really hit us hard and thats not even the whole thing. I saw the news that its going up north. Im writing this from a laptop conected to this generator my dad got for about 6 of our apartments. i hope todd had as much luck as i did.
