I'm not sure how hard this would be to do, but it would be great if models upon import into sketchup would preserve their UV information, so a texture can be applied properly with one click.

Here are some pics to explain better:

The model gets properly UV mapped in another program, then exported:

The texture is painted according to the position of the polygons on the map:

When the texture is imported into Sketchup, it preserves it's UV coordinates allowing for proper painting of the texture:

As oppose to Sketchup automatically resetting the UV information to be cubic:

Of course, because cubic textures are so important in Sketchup (for walls, buildings, ect) it would be great if this could be an option to be turned off or on before applying.
Like I said, I have no idea how hard this would be to do, so I might be way over my head with this wish. 😒

well, Jon, I see the rush of folks to answer you is overwhelming.
my guess is this is an internal-workings-of-SU problem, not a ruby-solvable issue.
this should be added to the SU7 wishlist for sure!

          Jon,

For some reason I missed this thread.
And I agree with you 100%. This is a must for Sketchup!
