Hello everyone. I created a component and copy and pasted it several times and was happily multi-selecting lots of things, just dragged a box around whatever I wanted. I decided I needed to change this component so I right-clicked on it and selected "edit component". I made the component a little bigger which made all of the copies bigger, which was awesome because I didnt need to change each one. I had connected this particular component together with other so some of those connections had to be redone but all in all it was great. However, ever since I used that "edit component" thing I can no longer drag and select multiple components (I can still shift+click to get them all but that is really annoying), and I have all these dashed lines all over the place like when you use the measurement tool... but if I try to delete the dashed lines it deletes one of the components. What is going on?

The dashed line bit sounds like you have a construction line inside the component. So edit it and delete it. That should remove it from all instances of the component.

You should still be able to to drag and select many instanes in one swoop. Keep trying, it'll come back.

You may be having a problem with the screen-display-update feature of SketchUp, which relies on OpenGL.

Go to 'Windows > Preferences > OpenGL > Acceleration' and disable "Use fast feedback" and see if that resolves the behavior.

          Regards,

As Chris states, it sounds like you have construction lines within your component. Edit-Delete Guides will remove them Incidentally you don't have to edit the component whilst doing so, as it acts globally. I think you'll also find that it will solve the multi-select issue. If you try and drag your selection window right to left (which only selects when you cross the entire object)it won't select the component as the construction line carries on infinitely. A left to right selection should work however as it selects anything it crosses including the construction line.

I think I don't follow. If you have a construction line inside a component, don't you have to edit the component to delete the construction line? Just running the eraser over it won't delete it and selecting it will selecft it and the component. So the only way is to edithe component to get at the construtcion line. Unless I'm missing something. I never use construction geomtery. Its a big hassle to me. Maybe I should try it sometime πŸ˜„

Chris, I probably didn't make it clear. I agree you can't use the eraser without editing the component first, but using the dropdown menu of 'Edit' and 'Delete Guides' will remove all construction lines in a file inside or outside of components.

I find construction lines essential to my workflow, I use them for a number of things such as aligning geometry such as building lines, drag out parallel distances such as kerbs, boundaries etc, and rough out layouts such as parking areas.

Ahh, I see - delete all construction geometry. That does make sense. Thanks,
