Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and to SketchUp, which I hope to use to help design stage sets for the amateur theatre companies I'm involved with. I'm also using it to muck about. 😄

I'd like to create a curved row of colums, equally spaced. I am familiar with how to array copies on objects along a straight line, a circle and a circle segment, but I was wondering if anyone knew a way to array copies of an object along an arbitrary curve or an ellipse. Thanks for any advice!

Youll need the copy along path ruby for this. http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/pathcopy.rb

sorry i cant provide any more info, as i dont use the ruby myself.

That looks like it'll do the trick nicely. Thanks so much for the help!

More labour intensive, but this will work too.

Go to the Ruby section and download Didier's Divide script

Draw your arc with the arc tool, and then divide it into the require number of segments. Didier's script will place construction points (cpoints) at the dividing points. You can also specify the number of segments making up the arc after selecting the tool and before drawing the arc (check out Help).

Place a construction point at the insertion point for your column a then make the column and its cpoint a component. Use the move + copy option to snap your column to the cpoints on the arc.

          Delete the cpoints.
