In view of all the discussion here regarding UV mapping and how it is missing from SketchUp, I came across this. It isn't pricey, looks intriguing and does export to a format that may be imported to SketchUp.
      Anybody here working with it?

Now, that's interesting! Thanks for the link Susan! And actually it can even be used as a file converter (even for SU free users via the dae file).

Good..?? Bad..?? Useful for SU users..??

Sounds good- I'm increasingly finding SU UV mapping capabilities too limited, might have to invest in this little prog. Nice find Susan (and Alan)!

It does just what it says. It is very useful for complex image mapping. You can drag nodes around so that you can precisely map an image to individual faces on a complex mesh. For instance, on something like the faces that are illustrated, you can drag the nodes relating to the ears or eyes precisely over the corresponding parts of the image so that they map exactly, not just approximately in the right place. For those unused to UV editing, it will probably take a little getting used to the fact that dragging the mesh over the image in this way doesn't actually change the shape of the model mesh itself, merely how it relates to the image being mapped to it.

This is the program I used to produce the skydomes for FormFonts...although you can now use the new mapping Ruby to do something as simple as a sphere/hemishere. I also used it for these Romans. http://www.formfonts.com/viewModel.php?view=1&id=8465&config=1
I also use Lightray3D to do much the same thing. You can see a similar UV arrangement of image and unwrapped mesh on this page.
Lightray also allows you to model and even animate figures.

That LithUnwrap is the precurser to the Ulbimate Unwrap ( same author) and works only on low poly items and it is only one piece of a puzzle. You need another free software to place the textures, it would appear.

Can anyone provide some good links showing how to use these "unwrap" texture editors.
This is another one of those fields that seems to require adjusting how your brain works.
Looking at unwrapped images I can't imagine how you start to paint correctly proportioned images that map correctly on to a 3D model.
                        Any help appreciated.

                        Regards
                        Mr S.

I have the same problem. There are a number of tutorials on the Unwrap 3D site but they don't get to the crux of what I want to understand quickly enough. HEre is the link nonetheless
