      Hello All!!!

This is my first post! WOOT!!! I am a Indei Game develpor and use SketchUp all the time be it my own orignall models or ones i've downloaded off the web. Now overall I must say I love the program. It is very ewasy to use and I love that it can export to 3ds file format! This is just perfect! So my question/problem is the fllowing.

I have downloaded a few SketchUps online and succefully loaded them into SketchUp. However when I export them to 3ds file format I get an unexpected problem. I always succefully get the 3ds file that is never the issue. The problem is the UV map or texture that goes with it. I sometimes get more than one of them and there usally noithing to do with my model. For instance...

Say I have a model of a Gun,just a simple pistol. Then I export to 3ds. When I get the 3ds file it is fine but there are about 3 sometimes even 15 diffrent textures that have nothing to do with the gun. The textures will be like a carpet and a peice of metal. How odd is that? So you understand my problem?

I thank anyone for there willing to help me as this will go twords my game development.
And please bear with me on responding to you on this forum. I have my own website that I updater daily and am an Admin for and moderate at and I have a Job in Web desighn. So Please wait for na respone. I will respond just give me some time. I really look forward to a soultion.

So if there is a way maybe you can set SketchUp to export only one texture in the settings please let me know how you enable this featrure. And I use the Free Un-rewgistered version of SketchUp as I mainly use it exort files only. thanks!!!!

        Hello Angelus,

Honestly I don't know how this might happen. So this is just a shot in the dark: some models that you download have not been purged and somehow some other textures are attributed to it. Try to go to Window > Model info > Statistics and purge the model (of any unused components, materialsm styles).

        Gai...

          Dear Angelus,

If you are starting Sketchup from the standard template and then deleting the figure (Bryce?), which appears on start-up, then you will need to purge the model of all the materials associated with the figure. You can purge unused materials by opening the Materials dialogue box, clicking on Details (icon on extreme right) and selecting the purge option.

          Regards,
          Bob

              Hello again!!!

I wanted to re-thank you for your responces! But must say I am having a little trouble...

When I go to Materials>dialogue box> isee no purge option anywhere. Rember i'm using the free version of this software if that makes a diffrence.

              Thanbks again for help...

I look forward to your responce!

              EDIT:

              I figured it out..sorta...

              you have to do this...

              Window>Materials>Select>Purge

You have to go to selct first or purge dosn't show up...only problem now is that fact that it did ablseloutly notrhing. It still exported my model as 3ds and got multiple diffrent textures as like a carpet and metal and stuff like that. So i'm stiull at a loss here....

But i thank you dearly for trying to help me! I'm glad that you guys where willing to help! It makes me feel better that you tried! That does help! So thanks again and if you have any more idea let me know!

              See ya!!!

                Angelus,

Slow down, back up, and read Gaieus' suggestion again...

Go to 'Window > Model Info > Statistics' to find the 'Purge unused' button. It's not in the 'Materials' window.

I'm not good with texturing in sketch up,but what I notice that Google Shetch Up 6 had terrible 3DS exporter,so I use Sketch Up 5,give much better and quality export...don't know maybe that's one peace of exporting problem.
One more thing, some model part could be transparent after exporting,it's beacuse you need to all out faces been proper turn, when you create box or any shape make shure that are faces turn properly.
