Chinese attempts to cross-breed rapid deployment force with Segways. ๐Ÿ˜„

I guess demonstrators will need to come up with something fiendishly cunning....like running up some steps.

that made me laugh SO HARD!!!!! yes coen, the do look cute. and yes, allan, i can just imagine the oh-so-cute segway SWAT team being foiled by the suspect running up some stairs. i can see it now...

the guy running away is temporarily stopped cold with laughter when he first sees them, and then realizes that they have guns and starts actually running. he quickly finds some stairs and goes up. the segways with guns now have to get off their segways rendering the entire thing futile.

i would've expected something like this from america first.

I'm wondering if you guys have ever seen the offroad models of Segways? They are quite capable compared with the more common sidewalk models. Our local Segway dealer took one out of the showroom to show me what it could do. it had no problem going up curbs, navigating steep terrain, or doing sudden extreme changes in direction at speed. I certainly was left with the impression it could go up short flights of steps.

Here's a video showing some of what they can do.

When I first saw those cops on segways my first thought was the protesters better just stay home -- or they get shot.

Ross, I was just ROLLING after watching that... it proves that setting a video to tough-sounding music does NOT make your product "Tough"... it actually made the video even funnier than I think it was intended. ๐Ÿ˜† I think (shakes head in pity) it's going to be a while before Segway riding is welcomed into the "Extreme Sport" community.

Ross, you have a LOCAL Segway dealer on somewhere as small as PEI? I guess it's a matter of culture and public attitude. It's estimated that there are somewhere between 50 and 100 machines in the entire UK...most being used as golf carts. I've personally never seen one being driven/ridden anywhere.
It's pitched as an alternative to walking, so the view here is "What's the matter with those those things called legs...or if you want to go a bit faster, a bike?"

I think it was the sight of the police gripping the Segways between their knees that I found so funny. As for the video, I'd have to agree with Fletch. I loved the "Don't try this at home" warning, followed by navigation of terrain that a reasonably fit 70 year old could handle on foot or bike without giving it a second thought.

I think they should rename the video 'extreme sports for the lazy man.' I see a distinct lack of skill involved, especially considering the less than challenging terrain.

Alan, i think the reason there are so few here in the UK is that they were classified as a road vehicle, so they cant be ridden on pavements.

well, I think for one reason this Segway Swat team makes sense, because they may even be able to aim and shoot while driving (would be interesting to see the effect of repercussion though ๐Ÿ˜„ )

and for a second reason: you all don't seem to know that these teams are equipped with the new segway extreme (speed up to 60 kilometers per hour and jumps up to 3 meters!)

Can they glide on water as well?

whats wrong with walking? surely your a lot more versatile when your walking than when on a segway...

                      that was great!

I can see that being on a segway saves your tired feet from walking all day - this makes sense... if you're a postman or policeman... just in dangerous situations... feet would be preferred IMHO.
