Subdivide and Smooth v.1.0
-
Sinisa - Go to Smustard and pay for it. The $22 for Subdivide & Smooth is a reasonable price to pay if you want the functionality the script offers. By supporting the developers of such scripts (by purchasing their products) you encouurage them to work on behalf of the community and keep creating great scripts. The next thing developed could be even greater but it won't happen if they aren't supported. These guys aren't getting rich so they could use the encouragement purchases can provide. They deserve a paycheck for the contributions they make.
I think it is fair to say the pricing at Smustard reflects the level of effort put into the script. Overall for a modest amount of money you can buy a great selection of scripts that will increase your productivity and perhaps let you do things with SketchUp you never even dreamed you'd be able to do with such ease.
Regards, Ross

Sinisa,
Did you actually register today on SCF just to ask for a pirat version of subsmooth?
He he... for all other stuff regarding (legal) Sketchup use : Welcome to the forum !

He's asking over there, too. Ain't Google great?

Nice catch, Jim (and Pete as a matter of fact)!

Thanks for that, Pete!

The lad does have an original take on things:
"The BOTTOM LINE is, internet is for exchange, pay or not, it doesn't matter. It is Whaat's decision and right to make something and give a price to it. It is my right to find a pirate version of it. People don't be hypocrites, tell me you never downloaded music, movie, book ...anything for free, that would be a big fat LIE. I have a right to search for whatever I want online. And I have a right to share whatever I want online. 22 dollars doesn't mean anything here, it is just a right of an individual to search and to ask for an information or a file online. So all you ppl from SCF back of, and don't be hypocrites." -
Why on earth do you want to spend your precious time on a guy like that..??
I fully understand that you want to help protect Whaat and his copyrights and I believe you've expressed that very clear and well...I'm shocked to learn that other users have joined and supporting and promoting theft of copyrights... tsk... tsk... tsk...
Unfortunately I feel that you're wasting your time maintaining that discussion...
It's leading you nowhere...He's obviously a looser, a nobody, a low life scumbag and a freeloader...!!
Hard to believe that someone wants to become a thief for only 22 USD...
But I don't even think this guy realize that...
(He doesn't seem to be the sharpest knife in the basket...)I will bet he's even one of those who ask you for something, but never take the time to say "thank you" or show a little respect and gratitude...
What's perhaps even worse is that he's most likely the kind of person who's very protective when it comes to his own property...Where I come from, we have one word for people like that... Cowards...!!!

Thats all well and good but if everyone had that attitude no one would create these things for us in the first place, especially not the more involved plugins such as this.
I regret that people feel that they can mock you so openly, but you were in the wrong.
-
I am not the guy that votes for witch hunting on piracy...but considering this is about 22 dollars (even for a student within reach), I would say: buy it.
In some cases I can understand that students would go for pirate versions: for instance to learn Autocad or Photoshop, which are just too expensive when you aren't using it professionally. (I am not saying it is good to download pirate versions, I just say I understand).
In this case however, considering the (relatively) low price of the plugin, I definitely recommend buying it.
Just like Podium: a good render solution that goes easy on the wallet.I don't know if you saw it, but Whaat also made some cool free plugins for the community.
I consider those free plugins he makes, as a nice bonus gift to having bought his commercial plugin. -

The discussion on the Civilisation forum is very amusing ! (thanks Jim for the link)
You have to give those guys credits for their 'liberal' view on things.
I almost feel tempted to agree with them.... ('The internet is for sharing')It's just that I know Whaat is a guy that puts an enormous effort into his plugins (besides his day job).
I am pretty sure, he is not in it for the money (just look at the amazing free Skindigo), but at a certain point there is nothing wrong with asking a little in return from this community.
The subsmooth plugin is more than just a ruby, it opens a new range of modeling possibilities.Sketchup is at a higher level now because of him and the other ruby coders here.
If it wasn't for him and the others, I was modeling my stuff in Cinema4D by now.I must add that I am happy to see that not all good rubies are commercial.
For instance, the 'surface tools' by Fredo6 are amazing and FREE.
Same goes for other rubies (I can't mention them all) like Sketchyphysics,Joint PushPull,FreeFormDeformation, spraytool etc..etc..etc...Kudos to those guys...

That's exactly why I was quoting him.

I know. Yuk...learning curves.
Think I am going to let Google decide wether I will learn C4D or not...if you know what I mean. -
Hm. Yes. While plugins like Whaat's add to SU's functionality, there's so much more work to be done. Now we need to do fairly basic stuff "externally", which is a shame. Like bevelling. I know, there's a couple of Rubies now, but those aren't "there yet". So I got me Silo, just for bevelling. โฌ 100 for bevels ... Works like a charm, but still.
Oh well. Back to the topic?

I'm not defending this guy, or anything, I just want to say that I have a problem buying this plugin myself. The site rejected my mastercard. I have a money enough to buy it, so it is not the problem. The site constantly sends error rejecting my card. Maybe guy had the same problem, and maybe that is why he asked it in the first place.

You can try to contact with Todd Burch either here by a PM or via the Smustard site. I'm sure he'd help.
On the other hand, the guy above did not ask for help with a problematic credit card but for a free download (and what comes from the discussion on the CIV forum it seems to be the case really).

Is this an entry into a lamest excuse competition? If it is then you've got a great chance of winning.
