SketchUp dreams/nightmares
-
a short while ago I had quite a lot of pints on a pleasant wednesday evening. I woke up at arround 4:30 in the morning, only to discover that I was still reasonably pissed.
not the best thing considering the fact that I had to get up at 7:15 (first to read the scf forum , then to go to work).I think thats why I had this peculiar dream (well it was more solving a problem, while being asleep):
I desperately tried to find out the ideal resolution to export an image with SketchUp, an image of myself. I was sure, that if I only exportet myself with a high enough quality (of course I had to switch off anti-aliasing to get such a large image export) and later scaled it down in photoshop I would surely be able to reduce my hangover considerably.
back in that dream it was a really serious problem, finding the right resolution high enough to get rid of my hangover, but without crashing SketchUp...
what is so wonderful about this dream is, that (in my dreams and therefore in my subconscious) I referred to SketchUp as a means to solve my every day problems!
I would be curious, if anyone of you ever had strange SketchUp dreams / nightmares...
if you had: here is the right place to speak about them and (perhaps) to get a psychological explanation -
I've also had dreams with SU but I cannot remember any longer (If you don't think over your dream after waking up it will soon fade away somehow). This one is a great one though!

I've never had as strange dream as your hang over resolving one, but I have had many other SU related ones.
My work involves me solving other peoples deadline issues so when an assignment crosses my way it is normally due yesterday and that means I need to get it done.... fast!
Sometimes it's a huge multi render project and I spend the first part setting up all scenes with correct textures, lighting ect, then depending on render engine I am using it sometimes means I need to get all 5 PC's setup for network render mode and when I get them going I usually catch some z's on my very luxurious office chair.
This is when those dreams often occur. Mine are more about modeling the perfect object and rendering to absolute photo real, I normally solve the dilema in my dream and win many prizes and gain much acculades, however on awaking I can never remember my workflow and my current project is ready for the edit portion which cannot wait for me to try recreate my dream and all is lost in obscurity. -
Jakob and Pete,
Loving your dream descriptions. Delightful writing. Given how much time I spend with SketchUp I damn well should be having some good SU related dreams, but if so I can't remember any. I'm going to pay more attention now.

LOL, brilliant thread!
Just two weeks ago I had a very vivid SU dream/nightmare. In reality I had just spent two days cleaning up a huge 20mb imported model of about 1kmยฒ of Malmรถ city, which involved literally thousands of repetitive Edit>>Explode>>Group>>Close commands, but also careful scrabbling around for rogue geometry, coplanar groups, unnecessary edges, etc.
Suffice it to say I woke up in the middle of the night having a very stressful nightmare about cleaning up this model, but at full scale. Of course in the dream it felt like a matter of life or death, but the real stress seemed to centre around the obsessive nature of "cleaning" a large model, i.e. how clean is clean, how many facets should curves have, etc? What a ridiculous form of insomnia.

I hope to find that in reality sometime in the future...
I used to help developing an immersive room at my university, a box (3m x 3m x 3m) with screens at three sides and floor. wearing 3d-glasses you could explore models in true scale.my dream for the future is to have such an immersive room fully developed with an intuitive 3D SketchUp interface. you can model your building in small scale, then press the true scale button and enter the newly created design in real size - with reflections, bump mapping and dynamic lighting (in real time) what a wonderful idea.
- oh yeah. and we could have a competition for modelling the new virtual SCF meeting roomevery month!!!
but back to your nightmare, Jackson: these dreams about facing an unmanagable task can be really nasty. lets hope we will have some more positive ones in the future...
