Modeling joints or reveals
-
Does anyone know of a way to turn lines on a model into reveals? Ie. if you have drawn all your joints on a particular surface with one line and then wanted to to come back later to model the actual joint with given width and depth is this possible with ruby. I know it increase poly count but sometimes this is neccessary for close ups. Also if using a rendering program the single lines don's show up. It would be like a routing tool.
- Select line(s)
- define router shape (this would typically be a rectangle)
- routelines

A long time ago I tried to get the script experts to create just what you are requesting.
Plough.rb
The script would select a SU lines or paths on a surface and a face profile and then do a follow-me that would "plough" reveals on the selected lines.
It would be super if the script could select rt/center/lft for profile alignment as well.
As a sub-set of the script it could also just take the profile/face and align it at 90 deg to the selected line (path)and then have the option to just do a follow me not necessarily a "Plough"
As SU lines do not export except sort-of in 3ds this would be a big time saver when rendering in another application.A must for Architectural renders and when one has a lot of reveals it can take an eye watering time to dig them all out.
Maybe if we all beg it would help.
Hmmmmm
