Global Axes?

Do SU have global axes? Can object coordinate in space displayed? How do you deal with multiple objects located all over the space?
-
Yes SU does have global axes, altohugh i dont think its particularly easy to work with them as coordinate axes.
Probably the most straightforward way to move things about along the axes is to jsut move it as normal, but in relation to the origin and lockingit to the axes. Thsi should provide you with a fairly basic method for movign stuff aobut relative to the co ordinate axes.
You can also enter the start and end points of a line in the VCB using [x,y,z] where x y and z are units along the axes, you might also be able to do this with circles and squares and tihngs, altohugh im not sure as ive never tried it before.
Having said all that, i dont think SU particularly lends itself to working with coordinat geometry, generally id say your much better of just having everything relative to everything else and moving it about as you need to.

Sure SU has global axes. What's more, although you can move / align the axes to anywhere / anything, the global axes will remain where they used to be. Read more about the axes here.
As for moving things related to the co-ordinate system defined by the axes, you can use the different brackets to define relative or absoulte co-ordinate points during the move. Read more about this at the very bottom of the Move section of the SU Guide.

Reason I asked is that for may large scale vehicle or vessel engineering drawing describes it with the use of station or water line dimension measured from arbitrary point in space. Can SU place a station dimension on object if 3D objects were placed properly in space? Or do you need to fake it.
-
I don't know what station dimensions are but I'm sure someone will enlighten me (English is not my native tongue).
anyway, what I'm guessing now, you want to have some king of grid or something. There are plugins that create guide line grids for you at custom sizes so maybe you could use those. See attached image.
-
Where can I find this gridline plugins? Station dimension are typically used to describe form of a ship, aircraft, or rockets. It is also used for mass analysis; Center of Gravity and such. So, all of the equipment and secondary objects on the vehicle end up with station value.

Ah, building a ship, ain't you! I love this stuff, really! You'd probably need a 3D grid then.
Go to Didier's Ruby Library Depot and get 3d_grid.rb.You can even create a nice, custom grid then some scenes with Standard viewsand save your (empty) model as a Template so you can start with it when launching SU.
