Can sketchup pro export textures with .3ds models?
-
I have sketchup free, but I was wondering if a .3ds model is exported with textures with sketchup pro. Also, is there a way to get sketchup free models (.skp or .kmz) to a .3ds .max or .obj format (either with or without textures)?

I'm not sure wether .3ds models keep their texture, i'll check it out in a second.
If you export your model as a google earth 4 file, change the file extension to .zip and then open it up, the model is stored as a .dae file, which you can import in to blender and then resave as whatever (.3ds or .obj in your case.)

After the quick test, i can say that SU does indeed export textures with the .3ds files.

There is a ruby for exporting as an obj from the free SU (without textures). Can't find it at the moment. I'm looking though and will post if i find it.

Ah, yes, Jim's exporter.
Note that a direct export from SU to 3ds will export either your texture UV maps or your welded vertices. Alan Fraqser wrote a nice tutorial on the old forums that I was supposed to "transfer" here but sigh... so little time!

I just tried the .obj export plugin, it works great! Thanks for the help
