      Hi Guys,

I rarely make requests for Ruby Scripts but have one now.

I wonder would it be possible to make a Ruby that would
show the Line Extensions at 1 pix while at the same time
allowing the Main Construction Line to show as 2,3, etc in
      Profile.

This is a through-back to my days of manual drafting. I
always extended the line (light pencil) beyond the main
construction line and then blocked in a heavy pencil or
      pen / ink.

I hope you understand what I'm getting at here. If not
      I can post a picture.

      Thanks for reading.

      Mike

        hi mike,

have you tried the styles in sketchup? i think the styles can mimic the manual drafting style.

          Hi Dudekracked,

Thanks for the suggestion but what I have in mind is not covered
          in Styles. 😒

Mike, does this sort of illustrate what you have in mind?

remus: this is not achievable using the styles only, because mike wants to have the profile thick and extension lines thin...

mike: only simple way is to export 2 images (one with profiles, one with extensions) and merge them in photoshop or any other capable raster image editor

Actually, I did it all in SketchUp. No PhotoShop or other image editor was used.

Looks like a lot of manual work and hidden stuff to do it. If it can be done manually, it can probably be automated.

Todd, it was really that much work manually but automating it would be a good thing. Doing it for a single scene is really no big deal but to do this for multiple scenes would be tedious at best. I made an image export with Extensions on and Profiles off. Then I switched those settings and created a watermark using the just exported image as an overlay. Here's another example.

                        http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/weekender410/americanbung2.jpg

The problem is that the white areas in the overlay have a masking effect on the model. Now, if it was possible to export the watermark image as a PNG and make the white areas transparent (is that alpha adjustment?) before making the watermark, this wouldn't be a problem.

As an auotmated thing I could see something along the lines of ADO, exporting images for each scene. Then those images would be imported to make watermark styles that are applied to the associated scenes. Might be a good time to get up for a cuppa.

or were you thinking of having it as actual geometry?

If you use an image editor which has layers, set the layer property to multiply. White is ignored while the lines remain.

Yes, that can be done manually. The point though is to hopefully automate this with a plugin. I expect the problem with automating it is getting the white to be made transparent since that doesn't seem to be available in SU.
