      Hi Guys
Well, its been an interesting week of learning! Not quite as intense as when I designed my first web page in Dreamweaver but close. πŸ˜„ I have the basis of the first building! Which is here if anyone is interested. http://www.mollycutpurse.com/The%20Model.html
Nevertheless, the program continues to confound somewhat. For instance, no matter how much I play around with the OpenGL Prefs, it refuses to show me the select lines when I use that tool. And in using it as well, its pretty much hit and miss for often it does not select! Then I use it again and it does! Not having those guide lines though is a nuisance. It is obviously something to do with this MacBook I should think. I am running 10.4.11 and have two gigabytes of ram. (Dreamweaver won't run under Leopard by the way) Not in my universe anyway.
A gripe? It would be so handy to be able to turn off the inference engine sometimes but I guess that's because, despite my subject heading, I need more training.
Another eccentricity is double clicking on a saved program (which should open up the file of course) only it does not. I receive an error message so I have to open it up via FILE OPEN.
I am sure I have hardly touched the deeper aspects of this wonderful program though and look forward to a long association with it.
Perhaps, for those very new at learning it, attention ought to be focused on gaining familiarity about those axis and what one can and cannot do, angle-wise. For it still seems odd that one cannot do something because the viewing angle is not correct. However, this is probably, I suspect, to do with learning about the full strength of that inference engine. Quite remarkable.
Thank you once again to everyone who responded and gave advice in my earlier post. All were noted.
Best Wishes for now and happy Sketching!
      Molly

        Hi Molly,

These hadware/software gluitches must be frustrating, really. I'm a windows user so I can only wish I could help (and my only advice would be to play with the OpenGL settings anyway).

Hopefully some mac users (like Anssi) will join the discussion.

As for the other topics - axes and such - just ask your quiestions and many of us will be happy to help (although if you have so many problems with the software, sometimes not everything would work I guess).

You will soon get pretty used to the inference part of SU Molly. It really does make using SU so much better and enables a quicker workflow imo.
I guess it must be very frustrating though when you are trying to work whilst having these software issues.

Good work with your first model Molly, you certainly don't start with the easier ones πŸ˜„

            Gaieus,

You are misrepresenting me a bit, I am not a regular Mac user. I own one, but it is I think about 10 years old and totally unable to run SU. I bought an Intel Imac for my daughter and tried SU on it a couple of times.

But to Molly's problem: It sounds a bit like your MacBook has an Intel integrated display card. Those typically work with quirks in Macs and are almost totally unusable in PCs with Hardware Acceleration on (Preferences>OpenGL tab). If you have an ATI or NVidia graphics card, you should apply all the available OS graphics upgrades from Apple, and then try running SU with Hardware acceleration on, and turning off Fast Feedback if required. Note that you have to restart SU between changes. Sorry I cannot be of more help, I'm mainly just quoting things read in these forums.

πŸ˜„ Me too, Anssi. I often quote you in these cases. I wonder where the original information comes then if we just quote each other πŸ˜„

But seriously; I did really have the impression for some reason that you used Mac (although NOW as I see your specs it clearly say Windows πŸ˜„ )
