Hi Bart! Welcome. You ever build that china cabinet I drew up for you?

        Hello Gidon & Dave.

Hello Gidon as of now I haven't used Sketchup but to play around with the first few lessons.
Patience with software isn't one of my best abilities.

Just about 3 weeks ago I changed out my hard drive & haven't reloaded Sketchup

Hi Dave I knew I recognized the face & steering wheel.

No Dave I haven't built the china hutch yet. There has been some significant developments here the apartment complexes the LOML & I manage have been sold. The company will probably finish closing sometime the end of this year. They purchased 10 complexes from out current owner. The good news is they will keep it with the management company we are working for. So hopefully we will be staying here to. I have 14 years into these 2 apt. complexes.

I have been slowly working on a laundry cabinet for over my Dad's washer & dryer.

On a side note Dave do you know what would cause USB ports to stop working? Just today the 2 front ports on my Dell & the back port that I have a USB extension plugged into with my camera card reader plugged in to it all of a sudden are not working. The printer port is working fine. The only change I've made it to hook up a new printer last Friday. Before that we were were using serial port LPT1 with the old printer.

        Thanks guys, Bart

          Gidon,

Did you find Chris Schwarz's book? If not you can get it on Amazon.com . It is called Workbenches. I started reading it. I think you will really like it. His writing style is easy to read and his knowledge of woodworking is top notch.

            Joe,
            Thanks for the info.
I haven't gotten around to it yet. I've a couple of projects I have to finnish off before Passover. I'll check it out during the holiday.

If you don't know where you're going, you're never going to get there.

                Welcome cwerner.1.

What sort of information are you after? Do you want to know how to lay out the decking for this deck? Or do you want to know how to draw it in SketchUp?

If the former, I would be inclined to lay the decking out in a sort of herringbone pattern so that the decking starts on the centerline and runs off the angled sides.

If the latter, I would make a decking board as a component and make multiple instances of it. After placing the boards as desired, I would come back and trim them to length. It may be, depending upon the arrangement that some boards will be cut the same and those components can remain related. For those that are unique in length you'd need to use the Make Unique command prior to editing them.

If you think about it, it would be handled very much as you would do in real wood or composite. Leave the boards long and trim them afterward.

If you need an illustration, let me know and I'll bang out something for you.

One of these days, when I get caught up in the shop, I'm gonna build a workbench from scratch. Right now I'm using a store bought that I've made some alterations to, replaced the cheapo front vise with a leg vise, added a thick front skirt with dog holes for my hold fasts, added a planing stop on the end.

I think the biggest mistake a lot of folks make is over-accessorizing a bench. They want to include every gadget they see out there. A simple, but versatile bench that works the way you work. Before CS's book, I looked all over trying to find a central repository for work holding methods, but found almost nothing. Going through old magazines, I found some stuff, but it was usually bits and pieces. I added a page to my web site some time back and posted some of the methods I use, and solicited stuff from other folks. If you're interested, here is link to the page.http://www.sawdustersplace.com/Workholding/Workholding.htm

i have to agree 100%... they are made to take a hiding not a picture lol
