There are NO dates for SU 7.

No problem, Tom...I had mis-interpreted your previous post.
I've been led to believe by Aidan that there will be more information and previews shown at 3D Basecamp.
-
YEH!
-
Oh...I see. No, Lewis, you weren't among the "pundits" I was refering to...no "hidden" hype in your posts at all, thank you very much.
-
well it must be one hell of an upgrade as they are taking so long.
probably packed with lots of great new ideas for making our design lives easier - i hope!
-
if our representatives at 3DBasecamp were made to sign an NDA the logical conclusion is: there is something worth hiding being developed by google. i find this good news.

But have we heard that they have signed a NDA..??
I haven't... -
Could be part of the NDA
chuckles at all the speculation
-
Yeah... Or perhaps they've signed an NDA covering the NDA...
GREAT cover up... -
NDAs for everyone! (if only.)
-
As long as they don't cover up the fact there isn't any real progress... Just kidding, from the limited feedback we've had from the big G there is progress, just no telling how much.
To tell the truth, with all the good work the ruby programmers/scripters (I'm not going to name anyone in specific, they all have contributed to some or other extent) are doing and people creating awesome plugins for SU - both commercial and free - I'm not too bothered about when the next version of SU will be released any more.
I am, however, bothered that they upgrade the base programming so as to take advantage of multiple processor technologies, be 64 bit compatible, and fix a few other bugs.

AMEN, Julian!

As far as 64 bit operating goes, I spoke with John Bacus about a lot of stuff and asked him many questions. One was about the 64 bit support for which he gave me much info to ponder on, he agreed if I put together the right questions he would be more than willing to answer as best he can, maybe giving us a more technical pros vs con look at our requests. Even higher poly support was asked and again I got a general answer that left me rethinking and possibly having a slight shift of priority, I would rather his words than mine as he certainly is the most knowledgeable one to explain. I will give them all a few days to return to their daily schedule before confronting them with their offer to give answers to the citizens of SCF.
-
Well, yes, everybody had to sign an NDA. However there was no official and public info leaked about the upcoming release(s) and features.
I was also there whith Pete and John Bacus and yes, in private (and especially with Beta testers in general) they were more open. So let's wait till Pete puts all those questions together and we'll see what they can officially tell about them. There are things we are not supposed to reveal however but that's not really related to BaseCamp and info gathered there in public but during private talks.

Just out of curiousity, will there be more new Sketchup 6 versions before Sketchup 7 comes out? Like Sketchup 6.4.5 or Sketchup 6.5 for example.
-
@Mpowel,
Sketchup has indeed a tradition of 'in between' releases, but they are mostly fixes and they provide no new functionality. Those updates get installed automatically (notification within SU itself).About the whole SU7 discussion, NDA signatures and the Bermuda triangle: it seems we have now two kinds of SCF members: those who attended 3DBC and those who did not.
I think all the big secrecy stuff is kind of silly and rather childish if you ask me...
Information leaked in 'private conversations'..brrr..Did anyone reveal the name of the killer of JFK?
I am sure that info would fall outside 'the NDA'...
Sketchup is a simple 3D modeler , not some military operation . -
He seemed to have overhauled you 64 bit being not so beneficiary.
Did he draw the GPU card?
64 bit probably is more of a CPU booster than a GPU one...
But one can't disregard the benefits of going 64 bit nevertheless.
Especially in 3D software. -
HAhahaha
Kwistenbeibel, I think I would quite enjoy drinking a few beers with you, as we seem to be cut of the same cloth.
I could not agree more about the silliness of all this.
It reminds me of the craziness going on over at the z-brush camp. They took people's money for a mac version and it has now been over a year and the mac port has still not materialized. The version 3 and mac thread complaint thread is by far the biggest thread on the site.
At least Google gave us version 6; it's hard to complain too hard, I guess, since it was free.
Still annoying, though, that they haven't even fixed what was wrong in 6, let alone give us a 7. I have a hard time believing that 7, when it shows up, has any chance of living up to our 1 1/2 year compilation of wish lists. I, however, will be the first to eat my hat if I am wrong.
-
Kwist,
I'm not trying to mystify anything here - just telling what I experienced. There was an NDA and that's it. No news were released and no-one can tell what went on in private discussions.
We cannot dictate what privacy policy Google should follow so I think this discussion here is a bit meaningless (I hope you don't get me wrong; I'm not "targeting" this to you).
BaseCamp was not about spying out information as at the very beginning it became clear that there wouldn't be "big news".
And yes, "on the fly" fixes happen - just like there should be something done with the new Mac OS upgrade but these are "fixes" generally, as we/you have been experiencing with the 3 or 4 new releases of SU 6 during the past year and a half already. I guess this is "normal" with most of the softwares out there.
@Chuck - well, that z-brush thing may have been funny! (even though people who paid may not find it so funny...)
-
is SU 7 still being released tomorrow and any news about its features?

And you've got the "tomorrow" information from where..??
