I am looking to create an animation, including a flyover of a proposed commuter rail project.

It would include a fly over or fly through, showing the general route and close ups at the proposed stations.

Anyone have any ideas about how I can recreate scenes like this in sketchup?

I though about using google earth for the fly through.

For the closeups, I thought that I could use sketchup to create the stations, but use the sktchyphyics extension to animate the train, and use a static shot video as a background.

I am not sure how to animate people.

I am looking for a low cost solution, that i can learn with no programing or advanced animation / photo skills

I'm just wondering if iClone could be used for this. I've tinkered with the demo myself and don't see any reason why not. I've never seen any "serious" stuff done with it but there has to be a first time....and it's used by pre-teens, so how hard can it be?

There's a demo of importing skp files here.

There's a You tube video here

It soon lapses into the same storytelling as all the other demo videos, but the first few seconds show that it can certainly be used for animated flythroughs. Having tried it myself, I can say that such a flythrough could include animated people.

I would export the gemetry as 3DS , fire up Blender and before doing anything I would have a look at this fantastic tutorial . It sounds very similar to the scale you are working in
