i was under the impression it was coming out mid march? i suppose OEM copies have gone out already, though.

I did not think it was released yet. My laptop has not updated itself.
Not sure if it gets released globally at the same time or via the States first. -

Their releasing it slowly to ensure that any problems with drivers/software are found and fixed before its released to the general public.I've got it installed on 3 machines at home (1 desktop and 2 laptops) and its fine, the only visible change is the addition of 'Service Pack 1' to the Windows edition description.
It seems smoother but that could be just wishful thinking.
As for SketchUp, I don't have a Pro version at home, only the free one but its working fine.
I DID have a problem with SU not starting correctly with an empty document but it was fine if you double-clicked on an existing SKP file, that's now gone. I'm not sure if SP1 or an updated SU fixed that.I don't have it installed at work, 2 work stations were ordered in the time between Vista being promised and it actually being delivered, so they came with XP installed and Vista was shipped later. Both machines (Dell's) haven't missed a beat so I'm loathed to upset them by installing Vista.
The biggest hurdle is AutoCAD, we have 2002/2004 versions which don't (reliably) work on Vista, only 2008 (and 2007 with patches) work properly. There's not a snowballs chance in hell we're going to upgrade so its good old reliable XP for some time to come.To be honest, unless a computer comes with Vista I can see no reason what's so ever for upgrading an XP machine to Vista unless certain applications require it.

That glitch with opening SU, was, I understand, fixed by Google.
Yes, Vista certainly won't party with older versions of ACad.
Any conspiracy theorist worth his salt would have MS and AutoDesk in bed over this one.
But the expected forced upgrades of AutoCad could be delayed for a while with most people sticking with XP -
If you look at one of the torrent sites and do a search for "Vista SP1" you'll find it.
Make sure you get the 32bit/64bit version to match your version of Vista.
All the usual caveats apply if your going to get ANYTHING from such sites so be careful. -
I have no intention of installing vista sp1 until plenty of people have done it with no problems. It's taken me the last 7 months to un-vista Vista and get everything how I want it. I've heard that SP1 can render some third party software inoperable, see link. I went through all that when I got Vista in the first place.

I think you might be right Jon.
Its truely pathetic isn't?.....Vista SP1 is supposed to fix the mess it created in the first place.....and then it blocks that obscure, esoteric application that nobody has heard of or uses.....Zone Alarm Security Suite!!!!

most of the time programs don't follow the guidelines for windows programming and on update of OS they fell apart. see this for an example

I find Zone alarm is pretty rubbish anyway, on vista at least. It slows my computer down loads, definetly going of something more lightweight when the nw machine arrives.

By the time its available via Widows Update all the listed programs will have been updated by their vendors, or at least should be

No I don't use Zone Alarm, but the fact Sp1 can stop any software working bothers me. I'm generally unlucky.

Tavi,I can see your point but what I cant understand is why, for example, quite recent releases of AutoCad become useless on Vista....surely it would be possible to write in some backward compatibiliy for what is a signifigant application.
