    Dear All,
first off, thanks to everyone who writes plugins for Sketchup. There are many very handy tools which maximise the sketchup experience. As a furniture designer and maker I have made use of the Volume tool, dimension tool and component list tool (to name a few) to help me calculate prices for new designs, and I have already saved a lot of time.
However, and here comes my request to the script writers, if there were a tool to combine all of these, life would be even easier. I would like to see a component list tool that exported a component list in excel, that lists each component once, followed by the number of instances of that component, followed by the outside dimensions of that component, followed by the volume of those dimensions in cubic meters to at least 4 decimal places.
The current volume tools I have been using gets confused by the joints that I use, but the dimensioning tool just takes the outside dimensions, which of course takes into account the wastage of the wood from which the component is being cut. I don't know if a tool like this is even possible, and I don't have time to start learning ruby script myself because I'm too busy dimensioning, and working out the volume of my components after I have pulled a box around them. Click, print, cutting list with component volume, that's what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm missing something, so any feedback would be welcome, and to the ruby wizards out there, I really need this tool.
    cheers

There is a plugin already, several actually, that will give you a cutlist output to a CSV file. THey are designed to give volume as board feet which is the common method in the US. It would be a simple matter to add a conversion column to an Excel spreadsheet to calculate M^3 from BdFt. I suppose the script could be modified to give you M^3 instead but I am not smart enough for that. 😉

I think this is the current version. (3.3) http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/CutListAndMaterials.rb

Thanks Dave, I've had a look at this before. How do you make this text into a .rb file ?

It is an rb file. If you've managed to save it as a TXT file, rename it and change txt to rb.

Actually, I should apologize. That doesn't appear to link to the version I was thinking of. Here's that link . You may need to sign up on the Google Pro Group to access it. Open the ZIP file and extract the files to the Plugins folder.

            Dave,
I do believe that's the one I'm looking for. You don't know how much time you've just saved me.
            Many many thanks
