Stand-Alone Renderer?

Hi guys,
I was wondering, Is there such as a stand-alone renderer?
I do use Vray now, but its not stand alone.I thought i had read somewhere (dont ask me where) that there will be a stand-alone version of it in the future?

In this thread you'll find a list of renderers.
Some are standalone (and can render scenes from different apps) like Kerkythea for instance (and it's also free) some have a built in GUI in SU - like Podium or iRender afaik.
