Dwg import and notes
-
Hello,
I’m using SU pro 6.4.112, when I import dwg files from a client, their notes/text doesn’t come in with the lines.
I fortunately have another design package I use, but I’m wondering why SU ignores the text?
Thanks,

I'd imagine that it is to cut down on the geometry. Most people have enough problems importing just those items that are supported...especially if the file has not been properly prepared in CAD before import. I would imagine that the rationale is that SU has its own way of doing things and is not going to allow itself to be unduly swayed by CAD conventions.
You can always explode certain elements down to their basic geometry before import. As it says in the Help:-
SketchUp does not support AutoCAD regions, XREFs, hatching, dimensions, text, and proprietary ADT or ARX objects. These CAD elements will be ignored on import. You can change any unsupported elements into primitive CAD drawing elements, within your CAD application, if you need to import these elements into SketchUp. For example, you can explode ADT walls and extrusions in Autodesk Architectural Desktop so they will import as faces in SketchUp. Some elements might need to be exploded multiple times in your CAD package to be translated into SketchUp entities.

I have had much success with Deep Exploration CAD edition http://www.righthemisphere.com/products/dexp/de_cad.html
It imports from most formats and exports to .skp (among numerous other formats)
The only issue is the price, but if you are needing to work between your CAD apps and SU, or SU and other formats for professional reasons, then this product is a necessity.

Thanks for the reply....gave me another idea...DWG viewer.
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?id=6703438&siteID=123112Import dwg into SU, then use the viewer to see what is missing.

downloaded, installed, looks like it will do the trick. I just need to see the notes in the dwg file about materials, etc.
