I think Bruce means just a placeholder page... something to start off on...

like this file upload this to your main website directory

open the zip file first then upload the contents... the index.htm file

      home page

yes I forgot to mention that modelhead...

be sure to check with yahoo or your respective host on what home page name to use...

Yahoo was one of the first, they owned companies like geocities... and they pioneered some of those names... like I believe "default" "homepage" and "index.htm" are all viable still... but check with your host...

index.htm is just the most prevalent for basic site function

          Alan that's a beautiful piece...

I might add to all of you that if you enjoy things like Alan's piece you can watch a video series call the "Antiques Road Show" on youtube and the like... it has people coming into a show and professionals tell them what their antique is worth...

if I had to judge Alan's piece I would say...

"the chest is from the early 19th century, and it is in remarkable condition, obviously made by a true craftsman, with years of skill... it most likely comes from the new England states... and has an estimated value of $350,000.00"

          I love that show...

so as you can see Alan, while my appraisal talents are certainly in question, I think you have a wonderful hand in working wood...

            Hi Kris,

Re the Antiques Road Show. That is shown over here on one of the BBC programmes I think and I love it.

Thanks for the comments. If only it was worth that much!

My wife and I formed a project we called The furniture for youth development projectand this was the second piece I made where the funding went to youth groups we wished to support.

I took my skills to a different level with this job. Its amazing what you can achieve when you are not hindered by deadlines. Other aspects were a complete failure. If I worked out how much per hour I was getting it was embarassing, but then again I was skilling up so maybe I'm being a bit too critical.

Oh, and thanks for chipping in on this thread.

            Alan

I think it's dooable... with our horrendous medical system the way it is here... people living to be 96 and 100... now... imagine in 30 years what we can do... personally I plan on living forever...

                        Hi Bruce,
That was a very interesting exercise.
I created 6 pages from templates.
                        Added text and jpg images.
Added a navigation bar to all six page.
                        Added links to different pages.

Time to get the book out for a bit of study.

                        Speak soon

                        Thankyou

                        Alan.

                            Hi Kris,
I know the type of look I'm after and what I have produced today is nothing more than a first attempt and skill building stuff.

I will update my profile when I'm up to speed.

                            cheers,

                              Hi Bruce
Yep I really happy with my progress, the software is very user friendly.

I have send a pm to Edson re his query.

The lesson to effectively 'go and play' was very interesting. Loads of mistakes, loads of corrections, and plenty learnt.

Today I revisited yesterdays homework to nail it down. The six pages looked untidy so I played around with them. So I'm happy to proceed when the rest of the class is.

                              thanking you
                              Alan

                                Bruce.

Your lesson using screen capture software was excellent. I would like to purchase it, and maybe other students would be interested as well.

In this way we will be able to communicate pretty clearly amoungt ourselves.

                                cheers
                                Alan.

                                  hi pagebuilders.

i am trailing you some but will eventually catch up. here is my first lesson. using the repository I created at yahoo I post a picture below
                                  http://mahfuz-alcantaragomes.org/sketchup/dadivisa_low.jpg
                                  and a skippy.

now to playing with sitebuilder which will entail two firsts for me: the sitebuilding practice itself and running windows on my intel mac (had to do it as this app is windows-only).

                                  cheers.

                                        Hi Bruce,

                                        You said
'I just re-read some of the posts and realized I missed your comment re purchasing software.

I am not sure exactly what you want but if you wish I will do a tutorial on that method. It is so simple and quick it is mind boggeling. Actually quicker for me to build the page than send an email....same for you with this simple method'

                                        My reply.
In your first tutorial you introduced us to your personal Yahoo small business account, with words and an image that read, click here and an arrow pointing to 'create and update' Not sure how you managed to create that image. I think maybe screen capture software, not sure. Is there any freeware to do this, or is there a workaround?

That image with your text was as clear as a whistle. If this is easy to teach us students, then sometimes we may communicate that way. On occasions words alone are just not clear enough.

I've sent a pm as well, just to keep you updated with other stuff.

                                        Thanking your again.

                                        cheers,

                                        Alan 😆
