Do you leave a note?
-
Well I gotta say I am a bit ticked off tonight. We were leaving for the pool in my wife's car and I noticed that there is a nice new dent in the passenger door of my truck. I know it happened today as I washed my truck yesterday. The jerk did not even leave a note for hitting my truck with his/her door.
I remember which car it was too as they parked too close to begin with. There was no dent at lunch time when I went to take my lunchbox back to the truck and I figured they were aware enough of how close they were. Apparently not.Well this is the second time my truck has been hit in the downtown parking garage with no note left. The first time my rear tail light assembly was crushed and red paint was left on my bumper. The part cost me over $100. Come to think of it the paint color of the Durango was the same that is still on my bumper. Hmmm.
I was backing up into a parking spot one time and I bumped the minivan behind me. No visible damage but I left a note anyway. The guy called the next day to say that all was well.
Do you leave a note?

I always leave a note or confess to anything. I find $20 sticking out of an ATM and I go into the bank branch and give it to them.
But in generel, re the car thing, I haven't figured out whether I'm really a very nice person or too afraid that someone saw me and think how humiliating it would be to be found out without having left a note.
-
I never leave a note.
-
I don't believe you Ross. That wouldn't be in character.
-
I never do that, so leaving a note is a moot point.

I don't wreck my car... lol, but if I did, I would wait on them to come out... you never know... could be a hottie.
-
have only hit a car in a parking lot once, and I didn't leave a note (couldn't afford anything at the time) and I've regretted it every day since
-
have you guys seen the mickey mouse note for you to make copies of and put in your glove box?
it has Mickey flipping the bird... and asking that you be polite enough to leave a can opener, for me to get into my car, with the next time you park so damn close?
it's a little dirty

I just don't drive. I live one block from my workplace, three blocks from my corner bar and never go to an excavation that is more than five blocks away.
When I was in "Little Italy" in NYC and was walking about and ran out of cigarettes and went into a small, corner shop and the salesman gave me back wrong change (15 cents more), I turned back and gave it back to him. He was so astonished that when I looked back from two blocks away, he was still outside his shop staring at me.
I think this experience was really worth that 15 cents...
Also the other day I went to my corner shop here (just across the street) and the girl there gave me back 2000 Forints (about 10 dollars) that I was said to have left there the evening before. It wasn't even her who was on duty then - just her colleague told ("described") her who I was.
These are the nice things in life.

Well there it was, parked in the same place as yesterday so I left this note on the Durango:

You parked next to my truck yesterday, very close. At lunchtime I came out to my truck, surveyed how close you were and realized that no scratches were made on my vehicle. I was relieved.
Well when I came out at the end of the day this was not the case, there was a huge dent on my door. I hope in the future that you would be more considerate of other people’s property.
Sincerely
The offended.
Then I walked up to the snack counter at the court house. The guy who works the counter is about 95% blind. While giving me the change for my cahsews he gave me $1 too much. I politely told him and returned it.
Today is a better day.

i've never had the opportunity to leave a note however i've been hit a few times as you have described above and i've seen people hit my car, and then blow it off like nothing happened and then continue to get out of their car and walk into the store...
last month i had a mishap....
so guy parked illegally in a handicap spot, kicked his door open into the side of my car (Black Honda CR-V) anyway (i was in the back with my daughter, tinted windows, she was eating and i was holing her bottle) well he hits my car, see the damage, in fact he even inspects it closely, then walks into the store...so i got out, took pics with my digi cam, took pictures of his car and the marks on his door from opening it into mine, then took pics of the side of our car, with the HUGE scratches... then called the cops and reported it.
so the guy got a ticket for parking illegally in a handicap spot, and he also got a ticket for obstruction to personal property?? (i can't remember the specific wording) anyway, we basically got our dent pulled and the scratches were fixed (all on him).... if it weren't for me being in the car, and just so happening to have a camera, we would have been screwed.
and if i were to bump someone and do some damage, i'd be upfront about it, b/c i would expect the same (a lady at work here backed into my car and destroyed my bumper... it took her 2 weeks to finally come clean and be honest about it)

i'd report his license plate to the police and let them leave a nice note of his ar as well.

i think i would leave a note informing my cell phone. the ensuing conversation would determine the direction of the case.
but this behaviour is not common in brasil. i would say most people here have a frontier-like way of dealing with situations like that: no note and denial if they got caught red-handed.
-
I don't want to go that far for two reasons. I have no way of proving he/she did this to my truck and I did not see it happen. I also have no pictures of my truck next to the Durango.
I think I would look like a fool trying to get the police involved. Anyway, chalk it up to experience... now maybe I can convince my wife to let me get that Mini I have been eyeballing. It would have a much smaller footprint in the garage
-
you guys are starting to make me feel bad. it's long been a chattanooga past time to drive down to huntsville in a large suv, park in compact spaces in parking garages, and recklessly open the doors... hmmm... guess we'll have to go back to switching the lettering around on church signs. at least Jay Leno likes that.
-
Good to see you CHeffey... where ya been?
-
just got back from Huntsville, you know those Durango's don't get good gas mileage...
-
Boo, i realize that maybe bad form to pull your leg about this. i have had that happen to me a few times. all of them were eldery people so i kind of just swallowed my anger and went on. also, i don't make much over the poverty level so most people don't want to park next to the clunkers i drive.
-
speaking of clunkers... Cheffey..
is that a Ford Duece or coupe in that photo?
-
No worries cheffy, I got a good laugh. Maybe I will come up and leave some trash in Ruby Falls next week.
