Do you leave a note?

Well there it was, parked in the same place as yesterday so I left this note on the Durango:

To: The driver of this car.
You parked next to my truck yesterday, very close. At lunchtime I came out to my truck, surveyed how close you were and realized that no scratches were made on my vehicle. I was relieved.
Well when I came out at the end of the day this was not the case, there was a huge dent on my door. I hope in the future that you would be more considerate of other people’s property.
Sincerely
The offended.
Then I walked up to the snack counter at the court house. The guy who works the counter is about 95% blind. While giving me the change for my cahsews he gave me $1 too much. I politely told him and returned it.
Today is a better day.

i've never had the opportunity to leave a note however i've been hit a few times as you have described above and i've seen people hit my car, and then blow it off like nothing happened and then continue to get out of their car and walk into the store...
last month i had a mishap....
so guy parked illegally in a handicap spot, kicked his door open into the side of my car (Black Honda CR-V) anyway (i was in the back with my daughter, tinted windows, she was eating and i was holing her bottle) well he hits my car, see the damage, in fact he even inspects it closely, then walks into the store...so i got out, took pics with my digi cam, took pictures of his car and the marks on his door from opening it into mine, then took pics of the side of our car, with the HUGE scratches... then called the cops and reported it.
so the guy got a ticket for parking illegally in a handicap spot, and he also got a ticket for obstruction to personal property?? (i can't remember the specific wording) anyway, we basically got our dent pulled and the scratches were fixed (all on him).... if it weren't for me being in the car, and just so happening to have a camera, we would have been screwed.
and if i were to bump someone and do some damage, i'd be upfront about it, b/c i would expect the same (a lady at work here backed into my car and destroyed my bumper... it took her 2 weeks to finally come clean and be honest about it)

i think i would leave a note informing my cell phone. the ensuing conversation would determine the direction of the case.
but this behaviour is not common in brasil. i would say most people here have a frontier-like way of dealing with situations like that: no note and denial if they got caught red-handed.
-
I don't want to go that far for two reasons. I have no way of proving he/she did this to my truck and I did not see it happen. I also have no pictures of my truck next to the Durango.
I think I would look like a fool trying to get the police involved. Anyway, chalk it up to experience... now maybe I can convince my wife to let me get that Mini I have been eyeballing. It would have a much smaller footprint in the garage
-
you guys are starting to make me feel bad. it's long been a chattanooga past time to drive down to huntsville in a large suv, park in compact spaces in parking garages, and recklessly open the doors... hmmm... guess we'll have to go back to switching the lettering around on church signs. at least Jay Leno likes that.
-
Good to see you CHeffey... where ya been?
-
just got back from Huntsville, you know those Durango's don't get good gas mileage...
-
Boo, i realize that maybe bad form to pull your leg about this. i have had that happen to me a few times. all of them were eldery people so i kind of just swallowed my anger and went on. also, i don't make much over the poverty level so most people don't want to park next to the clunkers i drive.
-
speaking of clunkers... Cheffey..
is that a Ford Duece or coupe in that photo?
-
No worries cheffy, I got a good laugh. Maybe I will come up and leave some trash in Ruby Falls next week.
-
Boo, so you are the guy putting the Tide Washing powders in Ruby Falls?!?!?!
arrgghhh, it's like an avalanche of foam driving thru that thanks alot!Kris, it's a coupe. Picture is of my grandfather, my family likes to say i look & act just like him. i could only hope to.

Funny story similar to this (well funny from the outside)
My boss drives a 1980's Porsche (not the best one out there, but still very nice) He was parked in his reserved parking spot out front of our office. A lady that works in another office in the same building hopped in her Chevy suburban and backed out over the corner of my boss's Porsche. Realizing what she did, she hammered the gas, and pulled out of the parking lot in a hurry. The owner of a 3rd office in a building happened to see the whole incident and got her licence plate number. He came and told my boss what happened, and gave the licence plate number over, which my boss then reported to the police.
That night the police found this woman, and gave her a hit and run ticket, (the second worst ticket you can get in Alberta) and a driving with undue care and attention (the worst ticket you can get in Alberta) due to this, she is going to have to pay for both tickets (around $1300) and for replacement parts and labour on my boss's car. She has also lost her licence (because of these extreme tickets) and will have to re-take her drivers test, and a drivers ed course.
My boss, once his car is fixed has decided to sell it, and use the money, and head down to the states to buy a new Porsche Carerra
so, these things you see, don't always turn out with the good guy losing
-
guy inadvertendly reverses his car into the front of your car
dude, gets out, looks at your car, checks his, reaches inside his glove compartment and takes out a notebook
dude promptly writes a note, folds it over twice and leaves it under your wiper blade
Below is what the note read:
To whom it may concern,
I reversed my car into the front of your, breaking one of your lenses and damaging your grill and indicators, not to mention your bumper.
I am writing this note so that the people who saw this happen might think I'm leaving my contact and insurance details, of course I'm not.
Good luck in finding me, nitwit.
