Well I still can't get home, but a least your posts have kept me amused.
Just went down to look at the Severn and its higher than it was in 1874, and the peaks meant to be tomorrow afternoon, with more rain forecast!! -

Alan I had honesty considered getting one of those amphibious cars a couple of years ago as there is a quay very near where I live and one next to where I work but judging by the speed of the river at the moment it would be a quick journey home, but up stream to work would have been very interesting. http://www.amphicars.com/

Hurray.... made it home at third attempt, but at times it was touch and go with abandoned cars, wall collapses and not to mention roads under 2-3 foot of water, and would you believe it there was one of those red amphibious car at Upton.
I just hope that everybody else make it home safe. -

Apparently, the Macedonian government has just declared a state of national emergency due to their current heatwave. BBC weather is telling me it going hit 46 degreees celcius there this coming week.
Crazy stuff.

Soon after my wife left for the >>>concert<<< the down-pour stopped. Its almost looking like the main acts might get some reprieve from the rain. Living in a place that has an economy that relies heavily on tourist dollars we were finding all this rain very worrisome. Rain interferes with the tourists getting their money's worth when they visit >>>us<<<.
[While my wife enjoys the concert I get to sit back with some beer and enjoy Keith Richards playing on the MP3's --- much better than standing in the mud listening to Aerosmith].

Sorry for my lame comment "what's rain' to all you Brits. I've been watching all the news about what's been happening over there (we're just starting to see news about it) and man what a mess! What was it, something like a month's rain in one hour?

We've been experiencing 40+ Celsius here for about a week now. Unbearable. But about a month ago, we used to have the regular afternoon rains every day. Monsoon, right6. I1d just love to have some rain now - but I can imagine that too much of it is almost as boring as this heat for weeks.

Hi Guys, eventually got the internet connection back, and made it in work today, believe or not, but for how long is anybodies guess as heavy rain is again forecast for Wednesday.
Joe no problem about comments. I have a brother in Brighton(Uk). He didn't know how bad its got, until yesterday despite my mum phoning him to tell him I was stuck at work. He changed his mind when he saw the TV. "A picture tell a thousand words". My other brother who's the illustrator tried to get to a Wedding in Gloucester, he had to stop overnight in a local pub and slept on the floor, despite my phone calls telling him how bad it was. He's lucky he turned round and went back to a nice dry home, not like the poor people who have homes on Gloucester and Tewkesbury, Eversham etc Now he believes me!
We are very use to flooding around Upton but not this bad.
Ross I'm a cheap scape at heart, but I do spend quite a bit a time down at the local marina drooling over some the big cruisers, anyway my wife says I spend to much on doing up my bike and keeping it going (AN 400 Burgman)and my old cottage.
Had the Kids building paper boats when we got back home, as a bit of fun to help Dad. My son won a school completion with this bit of origami, in previous less severe floods when the local school had some very large puddles. Anyway they were just happy to see me.I'll put another photo up from yesterday when I get my camera which shows where the Kids were standing the water would possible now be over their heads.
Local knowledge says that the floods at the moment are just the surface water run off from all the surrounding fields. The main event will happen in a couple of days when all the water from Wales and further up stream surges down!
James sorry to have seemed to have hijacked this thread with my adventures so far, anyway not to worry you but I hope you and your family are situated on high ground as I've just heard that Oxford is under threat and some of the water is heading down the Thames to London!!!!!! As people round here have found who aren't use to it it happens very quickly and with little or no warning. The emergency services are doing a fantastic job, but they are so stretched they can't go from door to door telling you to get out! The local radio has been the best source of news.
Anyway back to work and with a close ear on the local radio.

Byron Bay?Kirra Beach Coolangatta. Recognised as one of the best right handers in the world. Unfortunately they've just ruined it by extracting sand to it's south which changed the whole shoreline, but it will come back eventually.

I/we have known of the dreadging for some time. From my understanding the whole of the dredged area is now known as Superbank? I recall an article that Rabbit wrote that broke the story here. The footage of him in his hay day. "free ride?" At classic Kirra was epic! What a spot! Still is today only Much much different Y/N? Do you surf there?Me as a regular foot is definately high on my list of places I would love to go. Although I have surfed Margerate river and bells in Tourque. But also Bali, Fiji, Java, Indonesia, Peru, Brasil, Equador, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicauragua, El Salvador, Mexico, All of Baja by sail boat, Most of Hawaii, Tahiti. I live in California so all of that North, SOuth, Central, St Martin & Puerto Rico, in the Careibbean, Florida, South Carolina, New Jersey, New Hampshire,
Spain, Portugal, France.Would love to see superbanks, the gold coast, Byron Bay, South Africa, the sayschells, Andeman Islands, Samoa, New Zealand, Tasmania, Thailand, China, Alaska, Ireland, Israel, Cypress, Italy, I hear that they all have great waves that are worth a surf.

I drive past Kirra regularly and the ocean will win mate. The sand at Kirra and the whole coast actually comes from the sandstone cliffs of Sydney and it moves north due to the currents and ends at Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. I've noticed the currents are eating away the buildup created by the dredging and I reckon give it a year or two and things will be back to normal eventually, you can't stop the natural currents.

Coen - we had a similar situation here through may/june. The Hunter Valley just north of Sydney was totally flooded out, way beyond anything recorded before, similarly with Gippsland in our south, huge flooding, rivers reaching levels never reached before. These poor people had just recovered from the worst bush fires in years. 8O
We also experienced those small tornadoes that have been hitting England recently, 2klms wide, goes for 5 klms and then disappears leaving total destruction behind it, they appear out of the blue.
It appears that when you guys get heat waves we get colder. All the blueberry and stone fruit farms around here have just lost this years crop as they were hit with -3C frosts. We are supposed to be subtropical, we grow bananas and sugarcane.
On the plus side we are experiencing the best snow season for years and the extra snow will fill the empty dams in the Snowy Mountains.
