Texture Question
-
Im no expert in creating seamless textures. I have recently worked out how to create decent seamless textures with straight edge items such as bricks and timber siding, but I cannot get this image to work.
Is it possible to create a good seamless texture from this style of timber board?

Dylan, either of these work for you (I used the seamless tile maker in PSP after making the image square)?

Dylan the short answer is no. Those noticable twists in the boards are going to be repeated ad infinitum with a very messy result unless you are texturing no more than a square metre or so.

Bruce, had done that already as an after thought...so excellent idea :`) Here's the result: a little better, I think.
And of course, Stu's right about the repeating wavy...though better than could be, I think.

With textures like this- long and irregular boards for example, the easiest and best way is to just get a much longer photo to start with. Otherwise as stated above the results will be very poor unless you're a Photoshop genius which I am definitely not.
Here's a similar texture I made from a nice long fence near my flat, although the boards are much straighter than the ones in your texture. It still has a noticable repeat pattern when used horizontally (the actual fence is vertical boards), but it'd be fairly easy to make it tile better horizontally.
Great job Tom BTW.

Pilou,
I've got that program, but it's very limited both in what you can produce and the quality... unfortunately the textures almost never look photorealistic. I don't think it's capable of producing rough edged sawn fencing like Dylans, although maybe I just didn't mess around with it enough.

Thanks guys for all your help.
I will see how it looks when I finish the model. -

Thanks Bruce, this will be perfect for my needs
