I completely agree. Upgrading the animation aspect of SU is badly needed and would be highly appreciated by at least me.

I agree with both, I think that SU is a perfect application in the coceptual stages of design and with it the animation could be a
perfect tool in massing and sun and shadow study.I think they should adopt a different system than the one they have at the moment with pages for animation.
Pages can remain as a parallel system of presentation but they should adopt another one
like the one that 3DS MAX or VUE have.

What I have had to do is create 4 to 6 different animated scene perspectives in SU and then export the animations to post editing and create a transition between the perspective scenes to cut out the knee-jerk. So instead of attempting a full 360 just create a handful of sweeps around different parameters of the structure and post edit for smooth transitions and this will give you more creative flow once you get the big picture.

has anyone use the FlightPathTool.rb? i've only used it once b/c i dont do animations too often...but it worked pretty nicely after some trial and error... you basically draw the path of the camera with arcs...and set a target for the camera to look at.. and you can do it in sections.. so you can have different targets....it creates the pages for you and you export just like any other sketchup animation..and no need to create transitions, etc.. i've got an example, but its not uploaded and it probably wont sell the tool very well 😉 great job, though spence..

              A) I agree, the animation needs serious help. It sure would be nice to have more control through each point. My biggest problem is, when going from point A to point and then to point C, the variation in speed if the points are at different lengths. I know I can export the 2 seperately, but it sure would be nice if I could specify transition time for each one instead of global.

              B) Mateo, your new avitar makes you look like Simon Cowell...or are you really Simon Cowell and you are trying to look like Mateo....hmmmm.

can you make the "path" invisible so you don't see it in your animation?

Tinanne... As it is weekend could not talk to Dave to see if it is possible. Will keep you posted.

Mark ...Yes you can animate object or camera.

I was considering trying this out, but what put me off was the path showing. I contacted the makers via their forums and was told you can hide it.

you can probably just put it on a layer and hide it?
