      Hey guys,

I just built a new rig in January and about a week ago have been experiencing some strange things when working in SU. First off the program would close all of a sudden or would give me an error message saying something about a “Runtime Error”. When selecting objects within a model it would highlight a face behind it and not the face in front, same when using the tapemeasure it can’t seem to stay on axis when passing over a face.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled SU and using update v10.3.9 with on resolve. All drivers for my hardware are up to date so I really don’t think it’s the hardware. I’m on Windows XP Pro and I think my new rig can handle SU. All other programs and games are running fine. Below are my new specs…

      SPECS:
      MB: ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA V1.03
      CPU: INTEL C2D E6850 G0 @ 3.6GHz
      RAM: Corsair XMS2 DOMINATOR 8500C5D 4x1GB 5-5-5-15-2T
      GPU: ATI Radeon HD 2900XT 1GB @ 850MHzCore/2150MHzMem
      HD-1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB
      HD-2: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3300622AS 300GB
      HD-3: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3750640AS 750GB
      DVD: PLEXTOR PX-716AL Dual Layer
SOUND CARD: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
PSU: PC Power and Cooling ULTRA-QUIET, SILENCER 750

Is anyone having the same problems or is it just me? 😢 Need help on this. Thank you in advance.

Might be the ATI card, see this thread:

Thanks pmiller, I remember that thread I was the last poster, up to that time I had no issues with SU all this just seem to have started about a week ago. I guess it may be the card, at least through that thread and others with ATI cards. I'll see if I can contact ATI for more info and hope they add a fix on their new driver release.

I'll post feed back when I get some (I hope) from ATI.

What are the temperatures like on the CPU / Northbridge chipset / RAM? I've seen machines acting up when they get too hot.

              Hi Juju,

Yes heat is the enemy of all computers. Actully I'm pretty good at that department as my CPU and GPU are watercooled and my NB and SB have third party heatsinks/fan coolers. As it is...

CPU: 36c/36c Idle, 54c/54c Prime Loaded (each temp per core)
NB: 34c Idle, 36c Prime Loaded
              SB: 31c , 34c Prime Loaded
              GPU 41c, 45c Prime Loaded
Memory: Never seen it past 45c (Fan cooled)

All heavy games running for hours and nothing. Prime, Memtest, OCCT load testing passed at 3.8GHz and my 24/7 settings at 3.6GHz. I unchecked "Use hardware acceleration" and so far it has been working fine for the passed 2-3 hours. I will revert back to double check on the outcome and post result later.

              Thanks Juju 😉

OK, well heat isn't your problem then. Yep, I too think it could only be driver related then, one of the reasons I moved from ATi to nVidia (I was a die hard ATi supporter / fan boy).

Deslecting hardware acceleration sucks as it slows everything down in SU, but I suppose if its the only way you can reliably work (and stick to your current GFX card) then...

Yup, deslecting hardware acceleration sucks big time but surprisingly I have not felt the slowdown. I'm working on several file, one at 7Mb and another at 12Mb and it been smooth so far may be just a tad slow on the resonce but still workable.
