I've heard nothing but kudos about KT and want to learn how to use it.
But after checking a couple of tutorials on the KT website -- I'm kind of intimidated.

So many people talk about how easy and quickly KT is to learn.
Oh man, my eyes just glazed over looking at all of those buttons, options and tools.

It took me more than a year to get the hang of SU -- and that is with far, far fewer basic tools (it seems to me) -- although, obviously, VERY powerful.

I love SU and can't imagine modeling my designs without it.

But I feel like I'm diving into DEEP water with rendering.
Maybe it's all the new terms: bump map, antialiasing, emitters, etc.

Podium is rumored to be simpler (and less powerful, of course) but it isn't compatible with Macs right at the moment -- and I'm a Mac user.

What super light-weight, easy entry-level, guaranteed successful (you get my drift?) method might KT users out there recommend for the total neophyte to 3D rendering?

      Thanks, Danty

i know what you mean, when i first tried KT i didnt have a clue what i was doing, so i just gave up, probably not the best idea πŸ˜›

anyway, id suggest havign a look at the FAQ first, hopefully this will answer most of your immediate questions.

When youve had a good read of that, id say go and give it a go. dont worry too much about producing anything of any quality to start with, just have a play around with it, try to get a feel for it.

Once youve started to get the basics down start messing around with materials and lighting and bummaps and...just keep playing with it! youll get there eventually πŸ‘ And dont stop asking questions either.

I suggest that you start downloading the Getting Started KT2007 tutorial... πŸ˜‰

Although this tut was created for the previous KT version, basics remain the same, only the GUI has changed, the engine has been optimized and many new features has been included...
The Material Editor has been completely re-designed - but again, the functions are similar and should be easily adaptable... πŸ˜‰

The new Getting Started KT2008 Echo tutorial has been delayed a little, but will become available within the next 1-2 weeks... πŸ˜„

Download some - or all - of the free KT material libraries from our repository and apply some of these to your textures...
(Please note that there's a total of 19 material libraries currently available, and more to come very soon... 😍 )

And please note that it really isn't necessary to fiddle with all materials... Most of them can be used directly from SU... πŸ˜‰

My best advice will be that you make a simple scene/model to begin with...
This could be a simple room with a window... Place a few objects (I.e. a chair, a table etc.) inside the room and start playing with KT... πŸ˜‰

And if you have questions or want additional help, I recommend that you visit the KT Forum, where you'll find many helpful tips and tricks as well...

Looking forward to see some renders in near future..!! πŸ˜„

          Cheers
          Kim Frederik

Are you using the latest exporter?

also, a very important thing: there shouldn't be any accented character not only in the file name (and the material file names) but even in the path (folder names) you are exporting from/to. The is (was?) also a bug that exports to the desktop didn't work (or something like that) - I don't know if this have been solved though.

When i select Export Model from the KT List in the Plug ins menu, a thing pops up, I select ok and then it disappears and nothing happens.

On the statusbar (bottom left) you should see the process of exporting run. Can you see there anything?

Hm... Unless there are no international characters in the file paths, it should work.
Have you tried the KT Forums? Tomasz regularly helps people out with SU2KT related problems there.

Kerky works with xml files and I guess that's the problem - xml files don't like accented/acuted characters.
The same is with a GE export: it uses a dae file which is again in xml format so when you use a material with an international character in it, it won't upload it to GE at all.

Also " and ' are know to cause problems with SU2KT. Use plain a-z and 0-9 and _ or - then you safe.
