Just thought I'd post a china cabinet I started on last night for a friend. It's based on the dimensions and other specs he gave. I sent this off to him to get his opinion and while waiting, started playing with styles.

The doors on the cabinet are to be sliders. Two dividers inside the cabinet so a door covering each bay. Personally I think the center door should be in front but this is how things stand at the moment. Might need to add another leg to balance out the base unit with the case.

And this is a result after playing with it in Picasa

looking good Dave, what are your thoughts on the pulls for the sliding doors?
this piece would be nice with some glass on the front, is that the intent of the framing?

Thank you. Yes, the doors will have glass in them. The cabinet is very shallow and I expect there'll be minimal clearance between the doors so my thought for the pulls would be simple recessed fittings. It's supposed to be a sort of Arts & Crafts style piece so perhaps something of hammered copper. I'm not the one building it or living with it. We'll see what he comes up with.

Thank you James for the work on the cabinet. I hadn't done any of the glass because the very basics of the design were up in the air. You did a good job especially with adding the china.

Thank you for your comments, Tom. I can have almost as much fun playing around with the style variables as I can making the drawings in the first place. I saved this one for later use.

Recessed hammered copper pulls would be perfect. then maybe work something like it into the drawer pulls too. looking good and nice to see the progression.

Thank you all. Not much change but here's the most recent version. the center door has been moved to the front. All that's left to do is the drawer boxes and the drawer guides. The guy for whom I'm drawing this wants to see it with overlay drawers although I would like him to build it with the inset drawers as I've drawn it. Once those things are done it'll be time to make up the working drawings for him. Hopefully I'll be able to post some images of the real thing one of these days.
