this was a model from a larger package i built for someone... rendered this one up just to show them what they could see before actually getting something prototyped.... lighting coudl be better.... rendered in maxwell.. i spent some time on those welds..wish they had shown up better

-
That's pretty cool Jason. Are you going to build it?
-
thanks dave..
no, but my client is though
..part of a retail fixture package.. of course, their version isnt going to have the crazy wood.... i think just some reclaimed stuff.. -
Nicely done. Simple but elegant solution. The remark about the welds must be "irony" as I don't see any welds. I have a project like that in the back yard waiting for me to find some wood. That is a hard thing to find out here in the desert.
-
oh the welds are there! haha.. ok, maybe one down the side is missing..but.. should've done a shinier metal i think.

-
Yeah you need some reflection/refraction. I think specular would look right on both, the metal and the wood.
-
I am not sure the metal needs more specular as it is a rusty piece.
On the other hand, your metal texture seems to be to low on resolution for a closeup like that. It is ok for the zoomed out version though.Have you tried applying a 'noise'pattern (really fine) as bump map for the rusty Corten steal ?
Nice job by the way
