I'm doing some work for a small coffee shop that will be donating 100% of its profits to various charities. Cool idea.

      Here are some early sketches.

The biggest issue at this point is how to best make use of the very limited space. The tentative plan is the put the main counter in the upper-right hand corner (looking at the plan view). Next step is to put in the counter and furnish the rest with tables, chairs, couches, etc. I'd also like to do a storefront view for them.

      Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

should the budget allow it, i would make the interior a real box, with continuous walls. the nooks and crannies bother me a little, but this is just me. i always go for the solution with the most formal identity, which means the users will understand it. no doubt the shapes that possess this character are the primary ones: boxes, cylinders, etc.

i wonder if this reads as a suggestion or as a personal musing.

        cheers.

          nick,
this is a great venue for your time. Maybe some of the others will follow suite, I was thinking just the opposite, of the previous poster, irregularities in the space allow for niches and privacy, a place to romance your date-so to speak-over a nice chocolate frappacino. Hope you donut have to pro bono the design!

          Oh yeah-WoooHooo my first post!!!

The budget unfortunately doesn't allow for much at the moment - they're working on raising some money to cover costs right now. Thanks for both points of view on the space though. 😄 Ha! Frappucino and romance...

Edson, here's a crazy connection for you. My good friend who will be managing this coffee shop is dating a girl from Sao Paulo who will be spending a year at a university in Porto Alegre. I haven't yet found out which university, but she will be in your city and maybe even in your neighborhood.

oh yeah, and thanks to RonS for the moulding profile I used on the top edge (see attached) click here to see thread

yes, nick, it is crazy. it would be even crazier if she came to study where i teach and became my student!

tell her to look me up if she needs some pointers (phone numbers at my site).

cheers and good luck with this job.
