How to make a waterfall?
-
here you go, feel free to ask questions as its a bit rough around the edges, as tuts go.
edit: the tut basically does what juju's describing.
-
Edson, here's a quick idea. skp attached so you can play around till you get the effect you want. Sorry couldn't attach skp as it was 577 KB zipped. If you're still interested I can e-mail it to you but it seems like remus did a nice job.

Maybe this might help Edson? Alan Fraser made this falling water for my tsukabai. Check out how he did the splashes with a little tree.
-
Just had a look at your tut remus, very good info. I rarely use any rubies. What I did was very simple, draw a sqiggly line, copy it and close the ends in to form a face, draw another line for the water path, use the follow me tool. That's what I love about SU, so many ways to accomplish something.

thanks all for the information and for taking your time to help me. as soon as the compettiton is over i shall post the results i obtained with your help.
regards.
p.s.: the kids who work for me are amazed at the generosity and resorcefulness of the members of SCF. no questions go unanswered here!

Edson, this is fun: my answer was to set the water texture to "projected" then exturd the face (I also selected some to the resulting vertical faces and set them to not cast shadows). With a splash image (I just saw a link to a couple of free ones here a couple of days ago but can't find it now) at the bottom and some work at the top (like Mike's...could you please post that on Kelley's site for me, thanks a bunch), then some scale squeezing like real water...would look pretty good?
-
BTW Mike...how'd you do that?
-
thanks, tom. very good. another sound way to go about it.
we are actually putting all the ideas together to create our own water.
by the way, did you forget about those poplars i teased you to do?
-
Over in the 3d world, we make waterfalls out of terrains turned sideways and then a texture added...If you would go get the free copy of Bryce 5.5 (DAZ), you could make great falls and import into Sketchup...
-
Still playing around. See what you started Edson?, now I have to add some patio stones, some greenery, maybe some outdoor furniture.
@ Tom, I explained it a few posts above yours, wanted to post a skp but file was to big. Will post some screen grabs, it's pretty simple though.Mike

It looks really great, Mike...
What program did you use for the renders..??And - can I ask you to send the 'skippy' to me by mail..?? frederik [at] kerkythea.net..??
-
3eighty could you post a link for the free Bryce 5.5, I couldn't find it on the DAZ site. TIA
Mike

yes, mike, quite a nice response. i have sent you a PM with my email so that you can send me the skippy when you are done.
cheers.
-
Thanks Frederick, I used Podium. BTW, I'm looking forward to the KT release, haven't really used KT much because I was such a rendering newbie but the new release looks awesome. Will mail you the skp, can't believe this has generated such interest as it seems pretty easy.

Edson, no didn't forget...though I do try too (I started a really complicated rendition and figured out how to make them reasonable size-wise, about a meg, and close-up good looking, but now remains the tedium of work to complete :`) I'll get there, and hopefully they'll be worth the wait.
Mike, no limit on Kelly's server...but if you'd rather, and have the time, please email to me too: tomsdrop (at) swbell (dot) net

Thanks, Mike!
Much appreciated..!!
And we also look forward to the new release... And don't worry about things... We have made plenty of video- and pdf-tutorials which will guide you through things... -
You can go a long way just in SU by using some png files. The surface tension will tend to pull the ends in slightly too.
-
That's right, Alan...
But unfortunately you can't get a real nice render with these "manipulated" models... -
Alpro> (And all others)..Here is the link for Bryce 5.5..Got any questions feel free to ask..
http://www.download.com/Bryce/3000-6677_4-10696716.html Seems you will have to type the link in..If it doesn't work again..Simply do a Google for "Daz Bryce 5.5 free"
and the link is there..Sorry -
Interesting challenge this, I have done water with ripples but never a waterfall.
I will give it a go after my current project. (SU my favourite toy)
